DUAL RENTAL CAR RESERVATIONS

I have an Alamo membership, and have two reservations which are currently active, both for the same dates. One is a "safe' reservation, and the other one is a little risky. It has codes I've entered which I can't produce a coupon for. I was wondering if anybody knows if there is any harm in keeping both reservations, and trying to use the one for the lower rate (about $125 for a week), and if that fails, I could go with the other one, which is closer to $150 for the week. I plan to use the kiosk, which I know is generally safer, but still feel like I'd like to have a back-up plan in case it fails. My question is this. Is there any problem. since they have no credit card info in advance, in keeping both these reservations just in case the better one should be turned down, or would the safer route be to just go with the "safe" reservation, and pay the extra 25 bucks. Thanks in advance for anybody who has any ideas, or has tried this before.
I can't speak about Alamo, but last year I made a number of reservations thru Dollar. I would check regularly and see if my week long rate had gone down. If it did then I would make a reservation and at some point cancel the previous 1. As my August trip got closer I found the prices rising and falling everyday so I'd lock in something that would look better.

With a week left before my trip I probably had 3/4 reservations for the basic time frame ( give or take a few hours on the arrival/departure time). When I went to double check on the best rate/time I discovered that it was cancelled, as was 2 of my other reservations at Dollar. The "Dollar phone person" told me that they automatically cancelled the extra reservations since it was obvious that i couldnt drive 2 cars at once ( and did not list on any reservation that there would be an additional driver). And they kept the most exspensive reservation active!!

Be careful...or you could find 1 of your reseravtions gone when you land in Vegas!!
I book and re-book with Alamo all the time. I think I cancel all my old reservations but I have checked in to have the system tell me I have 2 reservations. Just put in the confirmation number of the reservation you want when you check in at the kiosk. I also use many coupons and codes and have never been asked to produce the coupon. I always reserve the cheapest car and then offer the lot attendant $5 if I want a bigger car. They've never turned me down yet.

In LV if you are an Alamo insider you don't even have to check in at the Kiosk if you have a copy of your paper work you can take a car and just show that at the exit booth. I usually have several reservations but I do cancel all but the one I use to check in. As Lindap said I have forgotten to cancel one of my reservations and they both show up at check in.

I usually check in the night before give them my CC and I am good to go. They have never asked to see my coupon.

Which coupon code did you use? Most all of them don't really require you to present anything.
Thanks alot for the helpful responses. As far as the code I used, it's not listed on my reservation, but I think I found it. It was from a post in this thread on 2/29, from slowpoke. It was AD2359FDF. I was able to steal a premium car for a grand total of $128.85. I've found nothing anywhere near this cheap since, and I'm sure I won't. It was for a weekly rental from Apr 28-May 5. The weekly rate was $108.13. My discounts were $10.81 Alamo insiders discount, and $35 off a weekly rental. I just happened to catch it at the ideal time when they were running a very good discount on premium cars. Made the reservation on March 10. If you google Alamo and the code, you will probably find it, but the rates are higher now.
That coupon code is from carrentalsavers.com and it says right on there that no print out is required. I have a car reserved for next week using that code. I've got a midsize for $144 total. As someone else mentioned, I've never had to produce a coupon using the kiosk. And I ALWAYS use the kiosk! There is always one open when I've gotten there.
How about keeping one reservation with Alamo and have a back up with another company?I did this once with Fox and Dollar.Didn't like the cars at Fox and went back to the rental center and used the Dollar res.
Thanks. Sounds safe enough. I'll cancel the higher-priced reservation, and keep the cheap one.

This just happened to us this week. Linda P is correct.
