Early Bird! The earlier you buy..the better your seat??

Just purchased my Vegas tickets (one way from Buffalo to Vegas) last week. Already had my return trip tickets a month ago! Didn't get my early bird (forgot actually). I figure I'll take care of it in the near future (don't leave til August 14th). My questions is...does the timing of my early bird purchase determine what my seat letter/# is? Or is that determined randomly amonest all those who purchased an early bird regardless of when the $10.00 was paid??

T- 99 days till...VEGAS!
I do not think it makes a difference. On a recent trip from Houston to Las Vegas, I had purchased the Early Bird months in advance and my buddy purchased his about four days before the trip. His boarding numbers were lower than mine on both legs of the trip. I think they are randomly assigned about 72 hours in advance but I may be wrong on the time frame.
How about the more you paid, the better your seat?

Similar story here. Paid for Early Bird 4 months ahead. Got like A27 and 28. Gal who had A 26 (one spot ahead of me) had bought hers the day before the flight.

Last trip a week ago did Early Bird against my better judgment, 2-3 mnoths ahead. Got A 16 and 17 which turned out to be at the front of the line. On the return flight we had A 16 and 18. Huh??? A gal traveling with friends had A 17. She and her four friends had each made separate reservations, and they had consecutive numbers a little further back. So, who can tell how they do it.

So you can't really say.

Thanks folks!!! It is what it is, but with a Non-stop 5 hour flight, , I know I'll be paying the $20.00 before we leave!! At least I dont have to hurry and buy the E.B!!!
My last trip in April I bought the early bird for myself when I booked in Dec. My sister was flying with me but we didn't bother to get her one. I thought since I had bought the early bird I would print her boarding pass first since my pass should have been assigned earlier. She was A33. I logged on and mine was A39, I thought WTF. I asked at the airport how that could have happened and was told most likely someone who had an early bird must have canceled their flight and that number was available when I logged her in. So, I'd have to agree, it doesn't matter when you buy it. I've been using the early bird for awhile and that's the first time something like that has happened with someone I've flown with that didn't get the early bird had an earlier number than me.
I personally see and have no need for the Earl Bird offering, but then again I check in online 24 hours before departure.

Great for you drmilled! The $10.00 is piece of mind for me when I am getting off work at 5 p.m. and don't have to remember to check in for my 5:20 p.m. flight!

TECRAMER....Double I feel your pain!!!
You can also check in by using your cell phone.
