Okay, I've just completed my third trip with Spirit this year, so I thought I would give my opinion of this outfit; given the many bad reviews they have received.

All of the counter personnel have been helpful and courteous, both in MSP and LAS.
All flights were on time with the exception of last Monday night...heavy snowstorm in MSP flight delayed 2 hours because of the weather..would have happended with any other airline.

Baggage fees: If you pay for your checked or carry on bags ahead of time, it will be less expensive. Many people have complained about having to pay $100 for a carry on bag at the gate. I didn't pay for my bags this last trip because I packed light using a small backpack that would fit under the seat on the plane. Spirit sent me two e-mails reminding me that I had not paid for my bags and that I would be charged more it I waited. So, if the airline is sending you reminders, why are some people shocked about the extra charge for a carry on at the gate? I had no problem taking on the backpack, no hassle at all from anyone.

Pay for your seat ahead of time: Spirit sent me an e-mail 24 hours in advance so that I could do a pre-flight self check in. I did the check in 23 hrs before flight time and was assigned a window seat, mid-plane; probably a seat I would have picked myself. All of the seats are uncomfortable, so paying extra doesn't make sense.

Paying for drinks/snacks on the plane: Yup they charge you for a coke or a bottle of water...but that is spelled out quite clearly on their website, so it should not come as a surprise to the fairly savvy traveler. i don't think that it is a real big deal to buy your own soda or water to take on the plane..but that's just me. Allegiant airlines also charges for soda or water, so Spirit isn't the only cheapskates in the industry.

Seats: Okay you got me there. Their rows are jammed together so you don't have a lot of leg room. If you are taller than 5'10", your knees will be touching the seat in front of you. The seats don't recline and they are uncomfortable..glad it's only a 3 hour flight to Vegas.

Fares: Flights are significantly less that other airlines flying out of MSP. They only have one direct flight per day which leaves MSP at 10pm and returns from LAS at 12:15 am(redeye). I scored a last minute deal for a RT flight last week for only $59.80. They had sent me an e-mail a week before, advertising last minute deals. Sweet, I flew Minneapolis to Vegas and back for less than 60 bucks!!!

So far so good with these people. I think it's great when I'm flying solo, but I would be hesitant to use them when flying with a significant other...don't think my girlfriend would be too impressed/think I am a tightwad.
