Gas Receipt at Dollar

Is it just me, or is this just another one of those "dumb policies" that businesses sometimes come up with? (The policy was always in place, but now they even give you a yellow slip with your rental agreement in order to emphasize it.) The intent (requiring people to return vehicles with the tank full) is fine, but it's a real waste of effort. You could "short-fill" the tank at the gas station right next to the Rental Center, have the required gas receipt, and still be returning a vehicle with less than a full tank. The requirement of a gas receipt is useless. I always have one, but rarely get asked for it. Anyone ever not have one and, if so, what did Dollar do about it if the gas gauge showed "full"?
They asked me for the receipt my last two trips - the trip before that they gave me a hard time because I didn't have it (and my tank was full).

Yep, it's a stupid rule.

I haven't used Dollar my past few trips.

Budget keeps being the winner for me & Southwest partner, so points, and No gas receipts needed.

It is a dumb rule since cars come with this sneaky device called a gas gauge. If the arrow thingy is on the F that means the car is full
Might be wise to get in the habit, when turning a car in, of taking a photo of the dashboard with both the odometer and gas gauge visible. Hard to imagine a rental company could successfully impose a fuel penalty in the face of that.

I'm not in the habit myself, since I've never had a problem. But maybe I should be.
The last 5 trips I have had one and never been asked for it. So next time I will just get one again. If I use $10 that would be a lot.

Same as Terry. Most of the time I remember the gas receipt, but I've never been asked for it. I wonder if being a Dollar Plus member means I don't get "carded"?

Sorry, I think it's a great idea. I've rented a car at least 3 times when the gas gauge reads Full only to find out it really was not. How does one tell, by calculating your MPG in a compact car after driving and then filling up and getting only 10 miles per gallon when you know it should be close to 30. Then turning the car in explaining this to the rental car company and showing the receipts from ones trip usually gets you a credit. The next question is do the rental car companies actually top off the tanks every time. I doubt it but that's another question.

My point is that a receipt does not prove the tank was filled all the way. Was not suggesting we all should short the tank for the next guy. But, again, a receipt proves nothing.
