Getting around without a car

We go to LV at least once a year - - sometimes more. We have always rented a car in the past but are seriously considering using other forms of transportation this trip. We are looking at using the free shuttles, airport shuttles, and, possibly, the Deuce.
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.
I believe that you will regret this decision.

We stopped renting cars about 10 years ago, and once we stopped, never considered renting one again. But, everyone has a different experience. A lot depends on where you are staying and where you want to go from there. Some places are much easier to reach than others. From the Strip it is easy to get to Palms/Rio/Gold Coast, to Sam's/Eastside Cannery, and DTown. If you might give some idea of where you are staying and where you are trying to get to from there, I could share details of our "non-rental" experiences.
Have always rented and will continue to rent---we are there a week 6 times a year and we like the freedom of a rent-a-car it gives you when coming and going........to each his own but enjoy jumping around without the hassle of waiitng for a shuttle, the Deuce, or a taxi......the prices in the past three trips have risen maybe $20 or so but we book and then just keep checking back to see if price drops.... This time we have Thrifty full-size $177.15. Have seen a few cheaper but only by a few dollars and really not worth the hassle of rebooking...we do not leave until 5/14 and will continue to check prices daily.........

I agree with thegreek. We always rent a car because we like to travel all around the area. We especially like to breakfast at such places as Egg and I or the Egg Works as we have no such places in Indy. We also try to hit In n' Out burger a couple of times and I do not mean the one on Tropicana just off the Strip. We like to drive to Red Rock and have gluten free pizza at Mark Rich. We always swing downtown and out to South Point and the M. For the NCAA basketball tournament we spend a few days at the Cannery in North Las Vegas. The rental proposition is somewhat expensive but we do as thegreek does by constantly checking prices and having Hotwire monitor our trip. We would be lost without a car but it just depends on what you want to do and how much inconvenience you are willing to tolerate. My level of tolerance for my time being wasted is very low. If you only want to be on the Strip and only for a few days I would not rent a car. Our trips are usually seven to twelve days and we stay both on and off Strip.
We always rent a car, but a few years ago the rental prices were really crazy so we skipped it. We just planned that trip around the shuttles and local busses - still a great trip. The free shuttles that I am aware of include: coast casinos, Rio shuttle, M Resort from the mall and I think there's also one from Red Rock to the mall. Sam's Town has one too. I think it's easy to plan a fun trip without the use of a car. Have a great time!

Thanks, everyone, we did decide to rent - - the rates just dropped by more than $100 from when I first checked. We are staying at Bally's this trip, so the location is central to everything, but I think that we will be happy to have our freedom!! We like to get around to the "locals" casinos and not have to worry about missing a shuttle. Thanks again for the suggestions, though!!
I couldn't imagine not renting a car anymore. The time that's wasted waiting for shuttles & busses can get very frustrating, especially if the bus or shuttle turns out to be full and you have to wait for the NEXT one.
Definitely keep checking rental prices. They are bouncing around a lot this year for some reason. Keep checking until the last minute!
Good Example of checking rental rates....almost daily till I get a good price...

Dollar...one week at $71.70.....Lowest I have ever paid...I use them in Vegas at least 3 times a year..
Started at $298. Can't imagine being without a car....but then....it may work well for a lot of folks.

June 11...here we come...

Dee:

Same thing happened to me. When I first checked Alamo for June 11-21 back in Jan., was over $700. Have made multiple reservations as the price came down; my current reservation is for $191 for a "standard" (like a Chrysler 200). Dollar was the same way; started at $644, was down to $226 when I made a backup reservation.

I'm from Ohio, too. Maybe you want to get together some afternoon out there?
