Is it possible to get tunneled TO the airport from the strip? I always tell the cabbie "No tunnel", and I've never had any problems. But I don't remember ever hearing about anybody getting tunneled to Mccarran from their hotel.
If your cab driver heads to the freeway from a Strip prop to the Airport......He is taking you the longer, more expensive way. And yes, it probably includes the tunnel.
That happened to me once from Venetian. Happened so fast, that I didn't respond quickly enough, but called HER on it when I noticed.
There's No reason to go on the Freeway, from the Strip.
Just mention those two magical letters which every cabbie hates to hear: TA (taxi authority). If it happens to you, simply ask him if he would be kind enough to have the TA meet you at your destination. He will be obliged to discount your fare if he knows that you have been long hauled and the TA will be involved.
We got long hauled FROM MANDALAY BAY! You can see the silly airport from the parking lot. I asked the driver where he was going and he said it was faster to go the freeway at 8:30 in the morning. I told him no it's not, that we stay @ Mandalay all the time and have never gone the freeway TO the airport. He gets us to the SWA skycap and tells my hubby the fare is $24 and hubby tells him he's lost his @$%&* mind, that we come to Vegas 4x a year and have never paid more than $15 or so for that trip and he wasn't paying him that much. He gave him $15 and said that was all he was getting and the guy got in his car and left. I had gotten the name of the cab co but not the driver. The skycap @ SWA told us how to report him to the Taxi Authority so we did. FYI it was Desert Cab.
