Harrah's to downtown and back by cab?

On our upcoming trip we will be spending a day downtown. My wife doesn't like the bus, so we will be cabbing it. Which way should I tell the driver to go so that I don't get long-hauled? I'm sure the freeway would not be the way to go. Is Las Vegas Blvd the way to go? Or are there backroads which are better? This info would be appreciated. I have been a victim of long-hauling in the past and have a distrust of cabdrivers. Thanks!
I would take the freeway. Exit the back side of Harrahs onto Koval, turn left, and then take Sands/Spring Mountain Rd. to the I-15, then I-15 north to I-95 south, exit at Casino Center Blvd., and you're downtown.
You might also want to save yourself a couple of bucks and possibly some time and walk over to TI and catch the cab there so they can more easily get to Spring Mountain Road and the expressway.
Thanks Sue and Bob. I would not have guessed that the freeway is the way to go. Thats why I posted the question. So does that mean that the freeway is also the best way to get downtown from the airport , providing the cabbie takes Tropicana and not the tunnel?

That's the way I go, and it's quick and easy. Swenson to Trop, Trop to the I-15.
Your question depends on the time of the day. Anytime between 2 PM and 5 PM I-15 North is usually backed up. Most of the time it's because of an accident at the Sahara exit which is a multiple daily occurrence due to the design of the roadway. From the Airport - Paradise to Las Vegas Blvd and then either the Boulevard or 4th Street to Downtown are your best bets. That's the way most limos do it at that time of day. In the middle of the day there are also entrance ramp lights onto I-15 which only allow one car on per light so that will slow you up.

I picked up my sister at the airport this past Tuesday afternoon. We left the airport at 3:55 p.m., took Swenson to Trop to the 15, and were back at Aliante by 4:30 (excellent time!). The entrance ramp lights were working, but didn't delay us significantly, and I pulled onto the highway and made my way into the lefthand lane, to avoid the traffic approaching Sahara. Had I been going downtown, I would have made it in 20 minutes.

I don't like taking surface streets -- too many red lights. And the last time a limo took me up Paradise to Sahara, there was construction and we sat in traffic. So I avoid that route.

Friday morning I dropped off my sister at the airport at 10 a.m., bot on the highway, and got back to Aliante in only 30 minutes.
On the topic...if I take a cab from downtown to airport, what is the way to go? 6:00 a.m. flight, so leave downtown at 4:30 a.m. I can't imagine the freeway would be the cheapest fair.
Yo Eleven,

I know you are no newby but wondered why you would not rent a car for a day at least.

In your original post, you said you were sure the freeway would not be the way to go. People disagreed with you.

So now you are making another assumption, this time about cab fare. If you're so sure about your answers, why are you asking?

I would not assume the freeway would not be the cheapest fare going to the airport at 4:30 in the morning. There will be no traffic at that hour. It could be the best route to take. If I were driving, that's certainly the way I'd go.
