Heck with Payless....score one for Priceline!!!

Wow, just booked our car for this coming Sunday. 1 week for $55 + taxes.....of course taxes more that car, but still. TOTAL $115 Woohooo!!!
that sounds great. I wonder if anyone here has experienced a car rental with priceline, and could tell us all how it worked out.
I've used priceline 4 out of the last 5 trips to Vegas. Always a great experience in my case. I've always either had Hertz or Alamo. 3 times I've been upgraded because all of the compacts are taken. I usually starting trying to bid months in advance, but this time had no luck until this week. Before I get my priceline bid, I always have a backup reservation in case I don't get one. I was booked with Payless and the rate kept dropping. I figured that if their prices wee dropping I should give priceline a try and boom. I don't know if I could have gotten in cheaper as it was accepted on first try this time at $11/day. My Payless reservation was $130 for a week.
I've used them before. They're great unless you need to make a change to your reservation. Not gonna happen. I tried renting for an extra day and they would not allow it....I would have paid some humungous penalty. So just be sure your plans are set in stone before your book with them.

Priceline's name your own price and hotwire's websites are both perfectly fine assuming you don't need to change anything (as previous poster said). The problems, if any, will be just from whichever company you happen to get, and have nothing to do with who you booked it through. Our last trip was booked with priceline, and we got Budget rentals. In over 75 trips to Las Vegas and using nearly every rental car company on the planet, this was our worst rental experience ever. (And the car itself was just fine.) It took FOREVER to get the car, and there were lots of agents working. I swear they took at least a half hour with each customer. Not sure why they were taking so long other than trying to sell the insurance. I suspect they didn't have the vehicles available to let us go. It took another half hour to get out of the lot; only one agent manning the gate, and he was obviously not having a good day. Finally, returning the car, it took over 15 minutes to get someone to give us our receipt. Standing there in 100 plus degrees waiting was not pleasant. I fired off a complaint to the national office and received a whopping $25 credit for my next rental, but since you can't use that on Priceline or Hotwire, it's not likely to be ever used.
