Hertz: Have a Gas Receipt

Hertz has announced that, on July 15 at certain locations likely to include Las Vegas, it'll begin requiring renters who drive 75 miles or less to produce a receipt showing they purchased fuel during their rental. If such a renter doesn't produce a receipt, he'll be charged $13.99.

From Hertz:

Beginning on 7/15/2015 there will be a new refueling option for Hertz rentals in the United States. This Express Fuel option applies at select locations to rentals during which the entire distance driven is 75 miles or less. If you drive 75 miles or less and do not purchase gas, or purchase gas but fail to produce a receipt, a charge of $13.99 will be applied. If you drive 75 miles or less and produce a receipt of a fuel purchase made during your rental, the $13.99 charge will not be applied.

Going forward, it would seem easy and wise to always have a fuel receipt available whenever you're returning a rental car.
Having a receipt has always made good sense with any of them. But only been asked for one once in the last 100+ rentals. Alot of those rentals have been under 75 miles too.
