hertz rental

picking the car up at the airport rental on gilespie dec 16th around 9:45pm returning car dec 20th around noon. I am a hertz gold member but the approximate costs is still $306.76. Is hertz usually always this high? Are there any discounts I need to try and find as I am a government employee and a member of chicago aaa which gave me 10% off? I do not wait in line and go directly to car and leave. Any thoughts ?

I am Hertz Gold Card member as well. After checking rates last year a few times it seemed Hertz was always high. I started renting through Hotwire and mostly the rental agency was through Hertz and price was much better for same dates and same amount of days. I always start checking Hotwire about 6 weeks out and the closer to the date of the rental the price has mostly has gone down. Only thing once I booked with Hotwire I never went back and check rates. We go in Janaury 22/29 and rates for thise dates are extremly high at this time.

My wife and I went through hertz this year and got 8 days for $150ish. If your a AAA member they are partners with them and we went through AAA's web site and then we got an additional $40 off because Hertz was doing September special.
