Has anybody found the sweet spot on how far out to reserve a rental car? I usually check about once every two weeks starting about 7 months out and play the reserve, cancel, reserve game but it does get tedious.
I use the same basic strategy, I start looking when I buy the airplane tickets-- usually 5 months in advance. Usually I cancel and rebook or modify several times before time to depart.
When I book the tickets, usually 3-5 months out. Just bagged an SUV for my Oct trip at $195.04 for a week, but probably will end up rebooking a few times.

Hang in there and keep checking - I rent three or four times a year in Vegas and generally find the best rates two to four weeks out. Booking and re-booking directly with the rental companies works best for me.....
ok I'm a little tired of the rental car game. but I did find a much cheaper rate picking up at budget on Tropicana and still able to return at the airport. so does anyone know what should I expect to pay for a cab from the airport to Tropicana? those shuttles that make several stops can take forever. or, would a city bus ride be easy enough?
I did the same booking after getting nothing under $300 and was told it was about a $20 charge for a taxi. My prob. was I got in at 4:00 and they closed at 5:00. Kept checking rates and finally caught a Dollar one for $164 on a lock and low at the airport. It was only up in the afternoon (high in the AM and back up the next day)...you just have to keep checking.
I checked the other day and for some reason a premium was the cheapest option at dollar at the airport. I booked it from Aug 29th to sept 2nd. Only $184 with all fees and taxes included.
Thanks everyone. Just an update. I have now rebooked at Alamo twice and now have a standard down to $152 for one week in Feb. which includes Valentines day and President's day. $70 better than I did in 2015 (my trip is for Feb. 2016). Patience and checking once a week pays.
