I'm offering a bounty.

Heres the deal- I have a reservation for a compact car for Jan 14th at 2PM and returning it at 130 PM on Feb. 14th, out of McCarren. Current rate is $385. I'd like to get it down around $300. If anyone gets me a non-Fox car at a cheaper price than $360, I'll pay you half the money I save under the $360 price. Get me a car for $300, you make $30. Get me one for $340, you make $10. No priceline name your own price, thank you.
I check my emails two or three times a day, so PM me with any findings.
Thanks.
I assume $385 is the quoted rate and not the total cost which in my searches comes up almost twice as much (fees are more than the cost of the car).

I see a quoted rate of $329 for Economy and $358 for Compact. Total cost $664 for the Economy and $704 for a Compact.

If your total cost si $385 you got a good deal.
Why wouldn't you try to bid for it on Priceline?

I almost always wind up with a known quantity when I do this; typically a bigger company than the one I was originally booked with. Only downside is once your bid is accepted, you "own" it. No refund for an early return, no date changes, etc.

If I had firm plans, I would shop it every day, lock in the best price I could get and then bid at the 11th hour on Priceline for 15-29% less and let the chips fall where they may.

Just my 2 cents...

Dan
$385 is the total price. Its looking better and better as I'm seeing $600 rates for the identical trip right now.

That is pretty much my gameplan. Priceline has come thru once or twice, but usually they reject my 11th hour bids as too low. There is o upside to locking in a Priceline bid too far in advance, as best I can see.
