Insane/Deplorable

I have been visiting Vegas since 1989 and it still has value in regards to non comped room rates despite the 2017 hotel tax increase to over 13% and those beloved resort fees. I rented cars at the airport like clockwork but the airport taxes are over the top for me.

I am heading out to Vegas tomorrow and I had the best car rental in recent memory get this.

A one week unlimited miles Nu Car Rental the cost an unbelievable $59.92. Yes you got that right. I just canceled the reservation because of the following reason.

The total with all of the "Goodman" Las Vegas taxes. Are you ready??

$162.96.

I am no longer going to support a 172% increase due to taxes. Think about it. Where do we draw the line?
I admire you for taking a stand.
"Where do we draw the line?"

What is a decent deal for a full week with unlimited miles?

You got a low ball quote from Nu Car Rental, until taxes nearly doubled the price.
Shame on Nu Car. False advertising. Bait and switch.

Had you been quoted $162.96 TOTAL for the week, taxes included, would that have been acceptable?

Keep looking.
Some of those taxes are due to the location. I have never used "Nu Car Rentals" but the airport taxes certainly do add up. It almost looks like they automatically added insurance to the cost. You might want to try using Dollar on Swenson. Quite often the same car can cost you about half due to those taxes. You can simply take a cab or if you are extremely frugal (like me), you can take the bus.

Taxes do suck, but really, what are your options? You either book offsite and deal with some of the inconveniences or you pay the taxes.

For my next trip, I am planning on using Uber as my requirements for a car won't be so demanding this run. That being said, it is not difficult to reach $30-$40 in cab fares per day!

Before you book Nu Car rental, please check out the reviews on Yelp. Most people say if they could give "0" stars they would.
Does the Mayor of Law Vegas have control of taxes on rentals that are out of his jurisdiction?
The City of Las Vegas ends miles from the car rental facility.
I'd imagine those taxes all come from Carson City.
$162 for a week is not a bad deal. No matter how it breaks down.
one thing to remember -- when comparing costs of uber/taxi/car rental... don't forget to include the amount that you will spend on gas for the rental car. I will be doing more uber this year and less car rentals. I might even take the bus from the airport to downtown.
There are some car rental places that have locations in some of the Downtown LV casinos, so check that out as well!
$162 for a week is a good rate anyway you cut it. Anytime I get a week for less that $200-210 all in I am happy...I rent about 4-6 times a year there.

Advantage has offices in the Boyd casinos, so you can eliminate the airport fee but I find that still comes out higher due to their daily rate being higher but I always check.

Bus DT from airport is an easy ride for $2. A big bag is a pain on the bus but a small carry on is OK.

With the parking fees at the casinos now, the taxes, etc. the rental cars will become more expensive all included so the boycott of rental cars will ripple through in time by everybody I think.

But like anything else the market will charge what the market will pay and when people go to Vegas they are willing to pay it.
