It would be nice to know when rental car prices drop automatically

I heard about a new website today and I'm giving it a try. You enter your reservation information into www.autoslash.com AutoSlash and supposedly you get an email when rates drop. If it works as promised this would be really helpful!

I am testing it for my reservation with Dollar in October and will report back.
Sounds great if it works.
Stu
I signed up for it but I had a pretty good price locked in and never got any notifications.....
the one time I tried it, I never received any notifications after my initial booking. I ended up booking elsewhere cheaper and canceled Autoslash.

Autoslash is good for what it is but is not perfect. If you book elsewhere and enter your info on Autoslash, they will check if that rate from that company goes lower. If you book on Autoslash, they do the same and they might ( emphasis on might) find another company with a similar car for a lower rate. The way to use autoslash is to book through them, and then cancel the reservation. They will ask if they can search again and will now do the full search. I've received lower rates that way.

For the cost, they are hard to beat. They are supposed to come out with an enhanced version ( for pay) that will search more often and more companies, but that has not been released yet.

I don't know how they make money. The rental car companies must hate them.
I have gotten a number of emails from autoslash offering lower rates for my three-day rental from EZ. It started at $93 and now is down to $42. Their selection usually involves Fox and Payless, which I would rather not deal with, but they also sometimes offer Thrifty, Dollar, Budget and EZ. when they send the email I go to the rental company's site to re-book. I don't book it through autoslash even though they may be $2 cheaper because I know what I have to deal with with the actual rental car company.
Hey parrothead. What is it you don't like about Payless. I just booked with them for next week.
I just rebooked from Dollar to Payless for my trip in January and saves ~$60. The feedback on this site is make sure you tell them NO EXTRA FEES as they will tack on a road side assistance fee that is not in the quoted price. They are pushy and sneaky and some have contemplated the agents may be compensated by home many extra fees they tack on.
I remember when they tried to tack on the roadside assistance, after the fact, and I told them I didn't need it because I had AAA and if their car was gonna break down, I didn't want it. A second guy comes over and claims "it's a mandatory" fee and can't be removed. So he gives me the contract to sign and I write UNDER PROTEST and draw an arrow to the fee for the roadside assistance. They guy gets pissed and wants to know why I messed up the contract. I tell him that I want both his company and MY lawyer to know that I protested the fee that he said was mandatory. He took the contract and put it in his shredder, printed out another one WITHOUT THE ROADSIDE charge on it and viola. As I walked away, I told him to have a wonderful evening because I sure was

GOOD FOR YOU!!!
They make extra money when they upsell stuff like that. So glad you stood your ground. At least that "second guy" was probably a tick higher on the company food chain, and maybe your objection will be noted. Maybe. Don't bet on it unless many others do the same, but maybe.

We seldom rent in Vegas, but maybe this will help others, who like the lower initial price of Payless, to watch out for this trick and stand their ground. Only if the masses (like nationwide) keep protesting and it slows down their work flow will it get noticed. Got to start somewhere.
