Monorail Problems

Today's LVRJ has an article on the financial troubles of the monorail, again.

I can not figure out how this thing got built in the 1st place. I think it would have had a chance of working had it been built straight down the strip however I don't see how this thing was ever going to work as non-user friendly as it was built.

We used it one time. Found it overpriced and inconvient. Elaine has asthma and the walking needed to use the ride was more than she wanted to do more than once.
If it had been built over the strip itself and connected to the airport, it would have been wildly successful. Instead, I think it will die.
It needed the airport connection but the taxi companies blocked it.

A monorail down the center of the strip would have more logical but it would have destroyed the strip visual.

A subway running above ground from the airport to the strip, then underground to the Stratosphere and above ground to downtown would have made the most sense, but very expensive.

No subway/monorail makes money. Their purpose is to alleviate traffic

The way I see it, the monorail is nice for anyone traveling to/from the Sahara, LVH, or convention center. These 3 places are a long walk from the strip. If you're going from the MGM to Paris, I would think you would be doing as much walking taking the monorail as you would just walking the strip.

It's a shame the monorail doesn't run from the airport to the strip to downtown. I know it would have hurt the cab companies, but many cab drivers are jerks anyway. I can't tell you how many times I've been longhauled or attempted to be longhauled.

I use it for trips to/from LVH-MGM.

It is the quickest and easiest way.

I think if it survives, it has to connect to the airport
eventually.

I remember when the very first leg was opened between Bally's and the MGM. Talk about poor planning and inconveniance. We seemed to go forever from the casino floor at Bally's to find the station like a treasure hunt. And same when we arrived at the MGM. Not a good plan to get customers to be sure.

If the monorail ran along the West side of the strip as well as the East side it would be much busier. Right now it isn't much use if you want to go to Bellagio or Caesars, but it is great for going from LV Hilton to MGM which is what I use it for the most.

It would also be a great improvement if they would at least create the illusion that they care about complaints. I had one of their guards having a bad day and he threatened to throw me down the stairs for "answering back" After a lot of effort I finally gave up trying to speak to anyone and emailed after I got home. They offered me a one day pass. They were suprised that I didn't want it - I wanted to know what they were going to do about the guard.

The whole thing is a good idea poorly executed.
