New creative SWA money grab

Disclaimer: I love Southwest Airlines.

While waiting in McCarran for flight home, the SWA person announced the 'opportunity' to be moved up in line to position A 1-15 for $50. Hadn't heard that one before. I didn't see anyone jumping up to do it.
At least it's not a new mandatory fee.
So, whoever was assigned A16 should have been given A1?
Saw something on fees. Tickets are taxed at a very high fee for the airlines while the "baggage", "head of the Line" fees ect are taxed at a much lower rate. So airlines say they are charging lower ticket fees but have added all the extra fees.

Maybe, if A16 had wanted to pony up the $50 to get closer. Then again, they might have given him A 15.
Those would be the Business Select seats wouldn't they? When we have flow SWA, most of those slots were empty. Not unusual that A15 has been the first passenger.
I hope they only do that on flights where no one has already spent the extra $10 to be in early bird seating. That would tick me off, if I had already paid extra, and someone else got to go on first at the last minute. Well not tick me off, but make me less than jovial.

Correct. They didn't have those A 1-15 Business Select spots filled.

Well, they would have had to pony up $50 to do it.
Havent had that exp. yet Candy. Maybe its easier to grab $50 from someone on longer flights?
But I think that new idea could bite them in the butt, and like mentioned, tick off other passengers who paid ahead for Early bird.
