Off-Site Airport Rental - Dollar

I have been looking at renting a car from Dollar and I noticed that there is quite a savings if I were to rent from the off-site location (across from UNLV). From what I can gather, a cab fare would be about $5 - $7 to get there.

The savings is about at least $ 60 less. In fact, you get an even bigger car included in that savings.

Has anyone ever tried this? Tough to get a cab from the UNLV location back to the airport? I normally just pick my car up at the McCarren Airport location so I am interested to see if anyone has ever tried this.

I have done this frequently, in Vegas and elsewhere. In my experience, it is no more expensive to return the car to the airport as it would be to return it to the nearby off-airport location.

I would think it would be very easy to get a cab from the UNLV area to the airport, just call a good-sized company and ask for a lift.

I just rented an Avenger from the Swenson/Tropicana Dollar location which is 1.8 miles from the airport and I saved $140. It would cost me $276 to rent from the airport and I got it for $137 at the off site. I am renting from a Tuesday to a Tuesday. It can't cost that much to take a cab to that location! Sweet deal I think.

That is exactly what I am doing for my trip in March... I am renting from Dollar, the same location that you mentioned (on Swenson Street).

I was able to get a mid-size (Dodge Charger or similar) for $145 for 5 days. The same type of car was over $240 from the same company at the airport...

Seems like a good idea to me!

Thats a heckofa savings, and its right near the airport.

Just booked a full size picking up at Swenson 4 days total $143. To Pick up at the consolidated facility it was $289. It was also cheap to pick up at TI and return to the facility which I don't understand because traditionally hotel pick up used to be much higher.

Thanks for the replies, gang! I have gone ahead and booked at the Swenson location. I will either cab it or if I really feel frugal, take the 108 bus. Does the Swenson location have a Dollar Express line? I am hoping to use my "upgrade coupons" (i.e. cash tip to the lot attendant) to get an even bigger car.

Thanks for the tip! I've never looked at the Swenson prices before but will do so from now on. Also, could one rent from Swenson and drop off at the car rental terminal (saving a cab fare back to the airport) for no extra cost?

You can do that but there is a $10 fee for doing so.

We are renting a compact fromDollar for 9 days at treasure Island using corp. code CH0770 for $169. If we wanted to return to airport, it was $10 more.
