I will NEVER do a prepaid with Payless again. I booked with Payless thinking this will ease the pain at the check out, 2nd mistake was I booked my flight with Allegiant Air. My pickup time for the car was @ 10:30pm but after waiting two hours past departure time my flight was cancelled and rescheduled for the next day. After getting the announcement that nite, I tried to contact Payless but the message on the answering machine said to call back during business hours. The next morning I called them back and told the person who answered that I will be their to pick up the car at 2:30 pm. The employee told me that by not showing up by 11:59pm the day of the contract that it became cancelled as a no show. I told him I'm not expecting to get refunded for the first day (since it was Allegiant air faught) but I do expect to continue on with the remains days that I paid for. His response was I could rebook at the current price but I have been charged for the first reservation with no type of refund, After telling him hell no, I got onto my computer and book with Fox car rental something I thought I will never do because of the off site lot. I must say after taking that 2nd shuttle to their lot everything else was alright in fact I will book with them on my next trip.

yikes!! that sucks.
Just got back and I used Payless. I was ready for them. But still they fought me. 3 day rental was to be $62.50 told the counter rep no extras please and was handed a contract with a total of $138 the first thing i looked for and found was roadside assistance I said no thanks please remove it. The guy replies its standard and hands it back to me. I say no and point to the box that says "optional" the one he wanted me to initial. He then states it will come off at the end. I argued some more and then pointed to "optional" gas charge of $45 again the its standard argument. Now I am being treated like I am a difficult customer, I asked for a manager the guys fine I will get him but "I am a professional and know what I am doing" Finally get the roadside assistance taken off but they refused to remove the gas charge stating it is standard for my convenience in case I am running late but if I return it full there will be no charge. so I go and get me my and ask the guy that was at the pick up window how this fuel charge is going to come off my bill? He says you didn't want it? I say nope. He says if you return it full but don't say anything you will still be charged if you bring it back full and bring the printed receipt back to us we remove it. I say what a waste of time. He says yep "they are assholes upstairs"...LOL yes that is a quote he then say I will remove it for you now. finally back to the original price $62.50 I also filled out the survey and got an email assuring me they don't lie or mislead their customers....Yep all these added charges are for our convenience... Oh I did forget to add I questioned both the manager and the counter person for the definition of optional so I would understand. Neither one answered me. Payless?....I think in the end we are paying more.

This goes right inline with my post above about why people use this company. How much cheaper were they than Dollar, Alamo, Avis etc? Was it worth all the bullshit they put you through?

I do not like to argue. and certainly I don't want to spend my VACATION time arguing with a clerk at the car rental counter. you can find bad reviews for all of the rental companies, but I have heard enough about Payless to make me avoid them no matter how tempting the price.

Two Pay less experiences.
January 2013, my flight is cancelled because of weather in NY. I have a 28 day reservation at a very good rate so I don't want to lose it. I call the800 and am told to call Las Vegas.
Straight to voicemail. The next day I get someone who tells me my reservation was canceled as a no show. I went to Car rentals.com and rebook for about $90 more.
At the counter, I complain and the clerk calls a supervisor. She hears my story and gave me a $100 discount.
Last January, my rental was hit while parked. The result was a deep gauge and a long scratch. The guy at the return who filled out the forms estimated $1,00-1500 worth of damage. The final bill was $427, and included three hours of buffing out the scratch. At $15 an hour.
