Payless really sucked this time

So Payless came in $70 cheaper than anyone else for a full size and I booked (been several years since I used them).
On a Sunday afternoon stood in line 25 minutes to get car and was really pushed to get insurance. Finally went outside and no cars ready. 25 minutes later, still not there. Finally complained enough and they gave me a Jeep Patriot. Not a bad car, but milage sucked on my trip to LA for a funeral. Never got to use the 4 wheel drive either.
On return, took 15 minutes for guy to make it to my car. No receipt. So I had to go to the office (another 10 minutes) to get one.
They are certainly last on my list from now on.
Its been years since I used Payless, but they always pushed the insurance on me. I just wanted to get going. I have stuck with Dollar for quite a few years now and not compare prices of other rentals. Just always checking when Dollar price will go down from what I reserved. Express is great with no hassles. Next trip to Las Vegas, May 24 - 29. Price right now at total $207.48 for mid-size SUV. Not great price, but I expect it to go down on vehicle or different one.
Yup, high pressure at the counter for payless. I think they will lose more and more people as time goes by. I switched to EZ and they truly are EZ.

I think we were there on Saturday before your Sunday - same situation. Long line at the counter, when others really had no lines at all. No cars actually ready and waiting - they had to continually call down, I assume, to direct what type of car to quickly vacuum next.

Also had the second wait period after escaping the counter and heading downstairs. Guy in the booth there was moving so slow, one almost needed to photograph him in stop-action sequence just to compare shots to see if he was moving at all.

Vegas was the second stop on the trip after Phoenix, which featured a similar wait at the counter, but the car was ready right away once we got downstairs. I actually remembered the guy there from last year- the one Payless employee that does not give you the insurance lecture. So no complaints with him at least

That does seem to be the Payless model now. Car in - car out. No standing stock. We arrived in Phoenix early, which threw them off a little. So part of the wait there was due to that.

I would say that is part of your decision when booking Payless. You may actually Pay Less - but be prepared to hang out in the rental center for a while. If you're on a tight schedule - might want to book elsewhere.
