PIT - LAS Southwest Flight

I am coming to LV on 3/8.  Was looking at the seating choices on my Southwest Boeing 737-800 flight to LAS.

Seating capacity is 175.

Currently there are 93 seats open.

Ordinarily, every seat (in my experiences for the last 5 years) is filled.

Take this info however you like.

Personally, I think that if The Mob still ran Las Vegas, every seat would be filled...

I'll show myself out now.

Thanks, Robbie.  Southwest seating is now a confusing fusion of options and prices.  BFF and I are willing to pay a little more for seating towards the front of the plane so we went that route (and our flight is always full as well).  What was not explained on the seating chart was that the seats we selected are 'bulkhead' seats, first seats 'after' first class, I suppose, which we would not have selected.  Good leg room, but have to store our purses in the overheads.  Could change but tired of worrying about it.

They have a post on today's Daily News about how much air travel is down to LV.

Robbie.....

From my experience the first week of the new seating rules, there aren't near that many seats available overall. Flyers with a low tier Swest credit card can pick their seat 48 hours in advance (and there are lots of those folks) and flyers with an upper end CC can pick their seat at any point before departure. That leaves all the others that will have their seat chosen for them by SW about an hour before departure (I believe it's an hour). And, the closer to departure time, the folks in the "all the others" category feel the pressure to buy a seat that's still available.

Definitely confusing.

The CEO is an idiot IMO for screwing up what set SWest apart from other airlines. But, I better get off my soapbox on that subject.

He was pressured into it pretty hard. I think he probably could have resisted more but he made those choices rather reluctantly.

A investment firm bought a significant portion of stock and threatened to push him out if he doesn't make changes.

It was more or less a hostile takeover

I'm glad I live within a fourteen-hour drive of Vegas. That makes a plane a silly option.

When I was going there from the SF Bay Area, it was a ten-hour drive. To take a plane, door to door, getting to the airport, parking, dealing with baggage, getting a rental car...nine hours. And then it got worse when TSA got worse.

That said, if I had opted to fly, Southwest would have been the obvious choice. Not any more, evidently.

I did fly Pencil Jet (what I call Allegiant) from Eugene and that was easy and cheap. I tried Spirit Airlines and dear God, never again.

I used to like air travel.

I usually like Alaska airlines. They aren't as good as they use to be but that's who I usually fly with.

I live in San Francisco as well.I have driven many times.Especially when I visited Las Vegas three times a year. Now I fly with miles plan.Only once a year on birthday.I wouldn't worry about seats. My flights book at last minute sometimes.

For me a toss up.I like the car ride.Yet I am up in year's.Have to make frequent rest stops.I get enough miles for first class flight.Looking forward to your trip report.
