Poor Experience at Dollar

I've used Dollar for 20 years in Las Vegas. This trip last week was probably my worst with Dollar. I tried the trick of renting one vehicle for 24 hours, then returning it and getting another one for the last four days of my trip. That was probably $50 or more cheaper. That would have worked fine except that there were NO vehicles in the parking lot either day. Seriously, maybe 3 Mercury Marquis, which I wouldn't choose anyway. As a Dollar Express member, doesn't this defeat the purpose of fast service? Anyway, I had to wait about 20 minutes the first day, and about 15 minutes the next. The second day, I went upstairs to talk to a manager, and he either played dumb or was dumb, because he "was not aware" there was a shortage downstairs with the cars. I'll continue to go with the cheapest rate, but as a long time Dollar customer, the service is getting worse. Yes, I think there was a convention in town, but how about some planning!!

I might suggest making a back up reservation if your primary one is with Dollar. In this way, if you were to experience this frustration again, you tell them adios and you're right at the rental car center where you can easily walk over to your #2 choice.

I've grown tired of long lines, "down" computer systems, etc. and now do this almost every time I need a car. I do however cancel whatever reservation I ultimately don't require.

We use Dollar quite a bit in LV also.

I learned long ago, to expect some sort of delay in getting the car.

As the OP said, sometimes there are no cars available - we've had to wait up to 30 minutes.

A 15-20 minute wait isn't really that bad - remember, you're on vacation -don't let a 15-20 minute wait drive you nuts, it just ain't worth it!
