PROOF of insurance

Rent from FOX all the time. Just now had to have proof of liability insurance. Always before they took my word for it. Picture on my phone of insurance card was accepted. Just FYI

Thanks

Might be in response to some new Nevada law making the rental agency liable if the driver runs over somebody's poodle and doesn't have liability insurance. Though I can't see how that would benefit the casinos, and no law is passed in Nevada without that basic criterion being met.

This happened to us last time we rented from Advantage.  It is in the agreement, but nobody ever asks, just like if  you are an AARP member.  We now take a photo as soon as we get the new insurance card.

They are all hard-selling the insurance.   I had to beat the Hertz guy back with a stick on my last trip.

The rental rates have all plummeted as demand has gone down and their car supply has returned to normal levels....so they need to find more ways to make the quarterly numbers.    Squeeze those nickels and dimes out of the customers.

It's super easy to carry proof auto liability insurance when driving.

Legally required, in fact. Pretty much everywhere.

Not having proof can lead to penalties, including fines, license suspension, and vehicle impoundment.

Carrying it is an easy, simple, and worthwhile skill to master.

Perhaps so. But it isn't and shouldn't be a concern of the rental agency or the deskling whether or not you obey the law while driving.

Insofar as whether they should be worried financially, your lack of liability insurance couldn't affect them, since if you incur liability while driving their car, that's on you, not them.

It's actually none of their goddamn business whether I carry proof of liability insurance, any more than it is if I choose to speed and run red lights.

I fell for this crap from Fox in October on my trip. ($65)   As of now, I just took a photo of my insurance card for my phone.

And I'll throw a fit if the deskling doesn't ask me for it in November when I go with the wife.  If so, I'm marching right over the rude one that hit me up on this in October.  Or better yet, I'll call corporate and look for a credit if they don't ask in November.

As in another thread, the self-harming steps this "Kevin Lewis" character in these threads says he takes to anger those he seeks business with is astounding.

Rental car companies are fully within their rights to decline their cars to people who don't purchase their proffered insurance and refuse to demonstrate that they have their own insurance. They understandably hate when police arrest their renters and impound their cars.

But of course this "Kevin Lewis" character never misses an opportunity to cause upset.

To everyone else: carry proof of insurance, it's the law. And if you're asked for it, show it and smile!

I'd love to see him in action.  There must be a lot of giggles, eye rolls, and head shaking when others get a load of his act in person.
