Well I wonder if you are going to the races? That is NASCAR weekend. It is a fairly busy weekend. I have been there for that. So it could affect pricing. I will be there a little before that and so far have to be happy with $111 all in for 4 days with Dollar. And I will keep checking.

I will be there for the race on Sunday only. I have no intentions of driving to the track, so I am thinking of modifying my reservation for Monday to Thursday now...

Gee, I don't know anyone who does That........

Miller-- You might also try splitting up your Rezzie. I got 2 rentals next trip, and save about $100
doing it that way, vs. staying with One rental car co. for the whole time.
Just return one car.......then walk to the other rental car co., and get the other. Easy.

I like that way of thinking, I have taken a look at a few and there are some savings to be had... Good tip!

My pleasure. Its what its all about.

I usually can get better rates staying with One Co. the whole time........but not during certain Dates.
Its hit or miss.
I finagle my dates & times alot, to see what works best, price-wise.
.
In my upcoming Trip, having 2 diff. rental car co.'s for the whole time, works out much better.

Good luck with your finagling!
I found a deal today on Dollar's website. It was one of their "city" specials and I was able to rent a Mid-Size (Dodge Charger or similar) for $145, after taxes (base rate was $110) for 5 days!

Ecomony and Compacts were about $90 before taxes and fees.

Now, my only questions are:

1) what are your thoughts on getting the rental insurance? Dollar offers 3 different types.

2) is it safe to valet the rental.

As mentioned, I have never rented a car in Vegas before. My wife and I are thinking of driving out to the Grand Canyon, so I think that having roadside insurance would be nice, just in case. Not sure how much this will add to my rental.

Any addition assistance would be greatly appreceated!

If you drive at home (unlike our New Yorker friends who don't own cars) and you have your
own Car insurance? Then just use what you have.
I've NEVER taken the rental car Ins., and had No probs.

I've had a couple issues thru the years........even had a bumper guard fall off........On my
way to PHX, btw, but Dollar didn't try to screw me on it. Just fell off!
I stuck in the trunk & told them about it when I got back, and that was it.

I also have never paid for add'l/spouse driver.
Figure if I was too tired to drive, or sick, or whatever.......and allowed my spouse to drive?
Good luck with them trying to tell me I did the wrong thing......but thats another issue.
I just don't sign up the spouse, because I do most of the driving anyway. YMMV

My only suggestion to is to Attempt to pick the best car of the bunch, even if its assigned.
Try to get a good one before you leave & make the Long driving trek....so you don't have to go back.

Much cheaper to rent cars in Vegas, drive there & back.............than to rent cars in PHX.

Especially now thru Cactus League. If you do rent in Phoenix, reserve well in advance as they sometimes run out of cars.

3 or 4 years ago, my older brother visited Mom and Hubby in March. He wanted to rent a car so he could visit lady friend who lived in the other side of town. Cars were sold out so he borrowed Mom's car for the night. Mom & hubby share a care and mom had to be very specific as to what time he needed to be back the next day as she needed the car to go to their appointments.

Also, if you are renting in Phoenix over a weekend, look at Enterprise rates for non-airport locations. At one time Enterprise had a special weekend rate, F-M, if you picked up the car at a neighborhood location say at 12th St. & Camelback Rd. I was told it was less expensive to cab from the airport and one could return the car at the airport.

I should have elaborated more on the insurance thing... I am from Vancouver, BC and do not think that my insurance would be transferable to a rental car in Las Vegas. I will have to check this...

No need to pay for an additional driver as my wife does not drive, so that part is easy.

I will be sure to really look the car over, as I always do when I travel for work and my company rents me a car... Too many problems in the past not pointing damage/issues out first...

Check with your credit card company to see if they cover you in the rental car.
