Rental cars more expensive than ever

I'm a seasoned bargain hunter when it comes to finding good deals on Vegas rental cars.   I've been doing it for 10 years.

I would have thought that between the engagement of Uber/Lyft and the new parking fees at hotels that Rental cars would be taking a big  hit in Vegas.    Judging by the prices that's not true.    I've plugged in all my discount coupons and membership id's and I cant find any midize car under $200 for a week (pre-tax).    I was scoring them for $90 a week just three years ago.

I'm seriously considering getting a bus pass combined with Uber rides on my next trip to see if I can beat the $150 mark.    That would likely mean forfeiting some valuable coupons at the Stations Properties and Silverton =(

I've still got three months before I go so I'll keep plugging in the codes.   We'll see how it goes.

They are brital, and then the fees on top of it are gouging.  I stay at local casinos and generally eat at local restaurants, so I need a car.   May have to consider renting off airport for cheaper fees.  I am not happy.  Nevada raised the registration fees for the rental car companies, and you will notice many have cars with Arizona and California license plates.

Nationwide (including Vegas) taxes can 40% on rental cars; so a $200 weekly base rental quickly gets to almost $300

Seems like rental prices pretty much reflect the positive economy in Vegas - they've been going up steadily for a few years. Until another recession hits I'm afraid the old $90 per week cars aren't gonna happen for us.

That being said, I've still been able to find pretty good deals by checking prices often with different companies.

Just scored good rates for October and December trips thru Costco travel. July prices are still sky-high, though.

I can't ever see not having a car, since we cruise all over town and out to the mountains or desert every trip....

Good luck, PJ - hope you find a decent deal.

Probably about 5-7 yeaqrs ago, I remember renting a car from Dollar about $87 a week about $120 with taxes. I usually stay downtown now, and if I need a car I only rent one for one or two days only. There is an advantage car rental at Main Street Station, and I some times rent at the airport and return the car to MSS if I am staying downtown.

You are right about the prices, they have gone up a lot.

Significant price drop this week..     Nothing to get too excited about but much better than before.   Down to $152 (pre taxes and fees)  for weekly rental.   Ford Focus or similar.

Budget

BCD:  W852802 (costco)

Coupon code:  MUWZ055   ($25 off $175 rental or higher)

According to the website you now have to present your Costco card at the counter if you use that code.    I guess that means no Fastbreak straight to the vehicle.

I’ve used Fastbreak with no counter visit necessary on Costco rentals. Just make sure you add your Fastbreak number when making reservation.

I am a usual car rental person, and my SIL suggests I get with the program and use Lyft and Uber.

A comment about Silverton and Station casinos made me think....

Can you get an uber from any location? If I have taken the bus to  SouthPoint could i then get an Uber to Silverton from there?

I also haven't used the bus for a few years but  I understand that I can get a Senior ID pass at the North bus station? Do I pay the regular fee to get to the Main North bus Station?

You can get Uber/Lyfts from anywhere to anywhere in Vegas.       You dont have to be in a touristy area.

In May I paid less than $110.00 for a week including the taxes. Right now I'm at $265.00 later in the year so I'm hoping for some BIG improvement. I will say that 110.00 for a week may be the best I've ever done and I think I booked it as my final reservation 2 or 3 days before I left. I'm vigilant about booking and re-booking but at $110.00 2 or 3 days out I just sat back and basked in the glory of it all.
