rental cars sky high

Yes David, thank you

Give the info I posted a try - after all, what can it hurt? Good luck.

Try renting from a casino location if that is an option for you.  We just got back from Vegas Monday, rented a car from the Golden Nugget, Friday to Sunday, $145.  Stayed at El Cortez, they offer shuttle service to and from the airport.  We used to rent from the airport, but now either UBER for the first day and rent from the casino location.

I usually rent from National.  They are cheaper than Hertz/Avis but more expensive than the others.  I like it because in no particular order

1- Emerald Club - no charge to join and you get a 10-15% discount on the rate

2- Club members get to choose their car from the Emerald Aisle,  I recently got a Malibu & there are SUVs in the aisle as well.  One trip I wound up with an Audi

3- No waiting in line.  Get to the rental center & go right to the cars.

4- Customer service is pretty good

5- Cars are relatively new

6- After a number of rentals you earn a free day

Since I am admittingly a "cheapskate", I prefer to rent from the car rental company that has the lowest cost - which is normally Fox. I have rented from almost all car rental agencies, but, as I said, only when they offer the lowest rate.

That is why there is more than 1 car rental company.  Everybody has different needs.  What is not mentioned are the taxes.  My last rental was 41% which is about average around the country

I agree fully. Since most of my trips to Vegas are lengthly ( 10 + days/nights) the time needed to stand in line and in seeking out my choice of vehicle is not a big enough reason to pay more for a rental than necessary. I like choosing from several vehicles because many times there are low mileage vehicles amongst the cars and I prefer driving one of them.

i have over 100 trips to vegas over the years and have always rented a car

need a car for a week in oct----have been checking the prices and it is close to $500

this may be the 1st time i use public transportation

the cx bus runs from the airport to downtown and costs $1 for a senior citizen

will continue to check up to the day i leave but does not look promising

Keep checking Duke. As my  August 28 trip grows closer, the rates have dropped for $400+ when I first started checking to now $280 as of today- for the same dates. I expect the rates to still drop as my trip date gets closer. My last trip I booked 2 days before leaving, and at a considerably lower price than I had been quoted during all of my checking.

Duke - I have just completed my rental for my next trip, Aug, 28  - Sept.7. I rented with Fox for $274.00, all in. This rental included one additional day to my original car rental search. ( the Fox quote for my original selected dates of Aug.29 - Sept.7 with this same offer code was $250.54) - I decided to rent for the extra added day which only cost $24 more. I am happy with paying an average of $27/day for my stay. I concurrently checked car rental prices for my Aug.28- Sept.7 period with Kayak, Priceline, and carrentals.com -- they all were $35-40 dollars more than the Fox quote. I hope this has been helpful. Good hunting...

we just got back yesterday. Rented with fox all in for 288 for the week for a midsize car.  2nd time renting with fox and everything went pretty well except for leaving our coupon books in the car at return.  I will post an update on the customer service.  We picked up at midnight and had no problem feeling safe.  Other options were 200 higher.
