40 from the AZ line to Kingman can be boring.

Highway 93 from Kingman to the entrance to Lake Mead is like driving on railroad tracks; definitely needs to be paved.  

Side note if you are doing it again; try Mr D's diner in Kingman (right off 40 as you connect to 93).  Quirky 50's style diner, food is good. 

When I am working in Phoenix we drive from Phoenix to Vegas. We take multiple trips per year & we can round trip it on a tank of gas.  So the costs of flying, airport parking & renting a car can pile up.  It is a pretty boring drive though  They are working on widening the road north of Wickenburg & repaving other parts. 

We find Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to be a modern clean airport with easy access to the airport & getting around the terminals is easy.  

Tom- Riverside.   So we just run through Barstow and Baker on the way to Stateline on the 15.   Pretty chill drive for us, as we've done it so many times. 

I used to make the drive from OC up the 15.  Still make the drive down the 15 from I-70 when I visit friends in CA.  Just got back driving 7.5 hours today from Mesquite.
