September Car Rental

I just booked my flight for Sept. 21 - Sept. 29. But now I'm having trouble finding a good deal on car rentals. The best I can find for 8 days is dollar for $256. I know there are better deals out there. If anybody has any suggestions that would be very appreciated.

Yeah, book something now to lock in a car so that you have one and check rates weekly. as the trip gets closer check more often. You're still over 6 months out and the rates will change quite a bit between now and then, sometimes up and sometimes WAY down. You've gotta be on top of it when it changes in your favor!

Thanks Stungazed. Just one more question. If I book something now I can change my resevation without being charged a fee? Can I do this with any car rental company?

I booked our car rental for the same time you have with Budget on an AARP code for $193. I'll keep checking the rates as the time gets closer as James suggested. I've changed car reservations many times since they don't ask for your credit card info. We've used various car rental companies and I've never had one of them ask for anymore than my name to hold a reservation.

If you are a AAA member, go to their site and see what their rates are with Hertz. I am going around that time and it was better than any of the others. That being said, you can cancel and rebook and change any number of times between now and your travel date. There is no charge for any changes/cancellations and better rates will definitely come along as we get closer to the travel dates, as the coupons available from the various car rental companies will become available for those dates.

There are no fees for canceling or changing a rental car reservation. In fact, you don't even need a credit card to secure the reservation so there would be nothing to charge a fee to.

bobbyb - Thanks for the AAA suggestion. I always forget we have it. I checked and was able to book the same car type with Hertz that we had with Budget and saved $40!

Just wanted to say thanks xan51090. Looked into AAA also and got the best deal so far. With Hertz I got 8 days for $200. So far that's my best deal.

Great call Bob......I never knew about the AAA and Hertz. Saved $20 on my rental and moved up two classes. Nice.
