Also, if you work for a corporation, they might have a negotiated rate with one of the major car companies. I know that with my wife, her company has a very good rate with Hertz and Avis and my company has a rate with a couple of them as well. So you might be able to find something even cheaper with the corporate rates.

The Alamo rates are still high for September but the following codes still work. ID: 7015309 (usually better than the "Insider" rate) and coupon code AD2359FDF ($30 and sometimes an additional 15% off). I'd keep checking the rates. Book early, book often!

You are too far out to take advantage of a lot of the deals that will appear later. For instance the SWA site always has deals but only for a two to three month period in advance. Hotwire many times will present a deal far superior to any you can get from another site. However most Hotwire deals are pay now, no refunds so be sure you are locked in for the trip. Hotwire will accept your reservation seeking a good price and then email to you anytime the rates change. The Hotwire deals are with the top six rental car companies so you will never have to catch a second shuttle in Vegas to get your car. Further as others have said you can make and cancel reservations many times before your trip to get a better deal (except the pay in advance Hotwire deals I mentioned). I sometimes do this drill five or six times right up to the travel dates so as to get the best deal. You can save a lot of money by being persistent leaving more money for fun and play.
