Something I have found out

I have been searching for a car rental in my next solo trip from November 27-December 7. I'm travelling alone and usually rent a car. I have also done 10 day trips relying on the shuttles and busses only in the past and don't mind using public transportation. Also I know the CAT system really well and do a lot of research beforehand, so getting around isn't a problem for me.

I usually use Carrentals.com as a starting point for car reservation prices then I move on to individual agencies and other specials to see if they can beat the prices I've already found.

I found for my 11 day trip that Fox is at 287.13 and Budget was at 462.00 for a straight rental picking up on 11/27 and returning on 12/07. I tried breaking up the trip into separate rentals to see how the prices would compare and here is what I have found:

Fox broken up came out to 184.25 (this is the best rate I've ever had for more than 10 days.)
Budget came out to 205.00 (I had to use Costco to get this rate.)

I've booked Budget with 3 separate rentals, but in reality I will probably only keep 2 of them and use the bus mid trip, not due to cost, but really because I can take a break from driving every once in awhile.

Just thought I'd share this for anyone taking longer trips that wants a good car rental rate.

I see where your rate at Fox is best right now..but I would suggest to keep checking . Many of these rates below will go down as your trip gets closer! I booked a compact at Dollar 3 months ago, from August 9th-18th, for $388 (fees taxes included). Now I have that same reservation for $137.97 (base rate) plus taxes and fees..which come to $231.72. When I check in at the Dollar express counter and show my 2 (individual) coupons for a "1 day free rental", my base rate will go down to $99.99 for the week. Sweeeet!

Yes, I always keep checking. The rates I quoted include all taxes and fee.s. The base rates are only $12 per day whic is pretty good for Budget, I just hope Alamo drops to meet them.
