Southwest early boarding

The Following is from Southwest's Boarding School

When can I check in and receive my boarding pass?

If you have an eligible reservation you may check in for your flight online at southwest.com beginning 24 hours prior to your flight's scheduled departure time. You may also check in and/or get a boarding pass at a self-service kiosk (where available), the Skycap podium (in select locations), Southwest Airlines Ticket Counter, departure gate, or on your mobile device.

If you purchased a Business Select Fare, Early Bird Check-In, or are a Member of the Rapid Rewards A-List, we'll automatically check you in* and reserve your boarding position, freeing you to print your boarding pass at your leisure.

*You must retrieve a boarding pass and be present in the gate area ten minutes prior to departure.
How do I get an "A" boarding pass?

Available boarding positions will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis upon check in. The earlier you check in, the lower your boarding group and position will be.

You may also purchase a Business Selectâ„¢ fare to guarantee you will receive an A1-15 boarding pass. Alternately, if you are an A-List Rapid Rewards Member or purchase Early Bird Check-In, we'll automatically check you in before general checkin begins. While this doesn't guarantee an "A" boarding position, it ensures you the lowest position available. Don't forget that you must still retrieve a boarding pass and be present in the gate area at least ten minutes prior to departure.

Like it or not, in the world of travel, frequent fliers do get perks and rightfully so.
I usually fly with free passes and I always purchase the EB. I have never been higher than A22. I do fly alone most of them time, going to visit family in LV. I think that now that more people know about EB, there is a greater chance of getting a higher number. I think that couples who sit across the aisle are okay--that leaves two seats together for others who may want them.
Well it finally happened...we got high A #s with EB check-in on our free passes. Last weekend we had 50 & 51 going and 51 & 52 returning (full flights of course). Previous high in last 30 flights or so had been 30 (and usually around 20). Fortunately found 2 adjoining seats within the first 6 rows both times (and room in the overhead).

Kind of expected it since we had changed the reservation from Boston to Vegas only a month ago. Nice thing was the EB went with the change.

Even nicer was we were originally scheduled to fly out of Boston last Sunday morning (when the Hurricane hit) and would have traveled down from Canada thru Deleware (with its huge flooding problem).
