As follow up to an earlier post, I did fly on Southwest this past Thursday evening. I presented my "old" coupon and the flight attendant said that they were expired and asked if I had any of the "new" ones. I told her I did but expressed some displeasure in the fact that there was no expiration date on the coupon and the irony that I earned these coupons as a result of being a frequent and loyal flyer. I told her I'd fish out the "new" one by the time she got back with my drink.
When I went to give her the new one, she said to keep it as she also accepted an "old" coupon from another passenger.
I would say that based on this experience, you may still be able to use the old ones but it's likely dependent upon the individual flight attendant. Had I known these would expire by the end of August, I would have bought a round for the first 20 people or so on the plane on an earlier flight.
So, as the saying goes, your actual results may vary.....
Edited to add: Southwest stated "We've reached a point where being so flexible with drink coupons has put us in a position of having far too many in circulation". What a bunch of BS. These coupons are in circulation as a result of two scenarios. 1) People purchased them or 2) People earned them along with their free flight voucher.
I still fly SWA but they're not always my "go to" airline. If I'm highly certain my plans aren't changing and I'm carrying on as opposed to checking, I'm going with the lowest cost carrier that meets my schedule.
