southwest slightly dishonest sale

today I received an email about an airfare sale. Sale was for certain dates. I have a previous reservation for one of the dates. I tried to change the reservation on line but did not get the sale price. I called southwest to inquire as to why the sale price was not the same as the price on the reservation screen. I was told that you have to enter the promo code to get the new fare. There was no way to enter a promo code on the change reservation screen. they said the only way to get the new fare was to cancel not change the reservation. By cancelling I would lose my early boarding fee $25 each. Great way to serve a customer.
I feel your pain, but of course SWA's primary objective is not to make less money on fares already booked (which of course IS our objective!) but to recruit more travelers.

Is the fair discounted enough that you still come out ahead even forfeiting the Early Bird money?
bgholtz says "great way to serve a customer" apparently forgetting the SWA is the only airline I know of that would let you reschedule the same flight at a cheaper rate free of any change fee. In the future if you HAVE to have the early boarding option wait until close to your departure to do it. Then you are protected if the fare on your flight drops which happens a lot on SWA.
