Returned Saturday from another Vegas trip; 4th time this year flying from MSP to LAS on nonstop flights using Sprit Airlines. Again, I had no problems using these guys. I prepaid for my checked bag, so my total fare came to $210, which at the time I booked my flights was at least $120 less that any other carrier. My son flew with me, using a small carryon that fit under the seat(no baggage fee). I put some of his clothes in my suitcase along with my items and my suitcase weighed in at 32 pounds; well below their 40 pound limit(this was a 6 day trip and I had more that enough clothes). I did not pay for a seat selection, but printed out my boarding pass a day ahead of time...was assigned a window seat going out and an aisle seat coming back. Both flights were on time. We had windy conditions coming into LAS, but the pilot did a great job dealing with the crosswinds and put us down smoothly. The flight attendants were friendly, and my ordered cocktail was quickly delivered(Two Tangueray gins and a can of tonic water = $13). I booked another round trip fare for my Dec trip....$98 total cost. This will be a 3 day solo trip so I am packing light.(see footnote). So far so good....I have saved a ton of money by using this airline for my Vegas trips and have yet to experience the nightmare experiences that other travelers have encountered.
FOOTNOTE:
My son purchased a small suitcase made by American Tourister that meets the size requirements to be a free carryon personal item for Spirit Airlines. It has a telescoping handle, wheels, two outside pockets, an inside pocket and fits under any airline seat with ease; including Spirit's seats. It is amazing how much stuff you can put into this thing. Walmart sells this little gem for $40. This is the perfect remedy to avoid Spirit's baggage fees, and still have a bag that will carry more than enough items for a 3 day trip(at least if you are a guy). I plan to purchase one for my upcoming solo Vegas getaway...it will pay for itself in one trip.
