Tipping at the Car Rental

Hi
Haven't tried it in a while, but does tipping the attendant still help in maybe upgrading to possibly a convertable from a midsize?

Thanks

Used to be a guarantee. Now there are no gurantees in the rental car business. Always got yes at Dollar now you don't know. Got yes at Avis last time but who knows? Got a no at Hertz but the guy was a jerk in all ways. Last 3 at Enterprise was 1 yes ( a wonterful woman who seemed only interested in our satisfaction), 1 no, and a no with a very hard upsell for ( a real pain to deal with).
I tip the yard person, not the front desk clerk and have yet to be turned down. I offer $10 per week and have gotten a Charger or Mustang every time. My last trip was for four days and I was offered a Mazda3. Thought about tip/upgrading, but didn't. The Mazda was so much fun to drive I ended up leasing one.

Yes tip, the lot guy/gal. I have a old upgrade coupon that I show them with $10 in front of it ( held with my thumb). So far it has worked every time at Dollar and Alamo.

But what happens when you get to the check out booth with a car that doesn't match the paperwork? Has anyone ever run into a problem there? I use Alamo exclusively. Bob
Dick, why use an old upgrade coupon. You can get the current one at https://travel.bjs.com/promotion/bjs/carrental/BJs_Dollar.pdf
Worked for me last 2 times I visited this year and I'm not a member of BJ's.

The bribee scribbles something on your paperwork, and the guy at the gate signs off on it. I imagine they are all in it together. Its never been an issue.
I find the whole car rental experience in Vegas laughable. You hunt around for days/weeks prior to your trip, find the best deal available, make your reservation and then get the "hard sell" at the rental counter for insurance/ the full tank of gas "deal", even roadside "insurance" slipped onto your contract ( new to me, I am glad I check the contract before accepting/signing). After all of this waste of time, you get your orders to go to the lot - where , for the nominal sum of $10 or $20 dollars you can get a "free" upgrade, wink, wink.
I'm afraid I'm missing your point. It takes about thirty seconds a day to check to see if there is a better rate than you have previously booked, and about the same amount of time to tell the clerk your CC takes care of everything and you want nothing. What any of that has to do with tipping to get n upgrade escapes me.
