Using an Upgrade coupon when picking up rental

Has anyone used an upgrade coupon with the attendant in the garage?

Just wondering if I book an Alamo economy (the rates are terrible right now), if I can get the attendant to take my coupon to get a little bit bigger of a car.

Or is it anyone's experience to give the attendant a few bucks to just upgrade us and how much $'s work to make that happen.

For Dollar, I would always go to the attendant and ask him if "...they were still accepting these upgrade coupons" and then show him a $10. They always seemed to laugh and be more than happy to accept. I was very concerned the first time I tried this as I had rented a sub-mini-compact and got a full size. So, I kept a close eye on any additional charges on my credit car for this upgrade. I never was charged anything more. It has worked every time for me.

I have a mid size car rented at Swenson for $137 for a full week, but then we have to catch a cab from the airport to Swenson. Cars are extremely high for the month of March it looks like. Prices have not gone down but keep getting higher it seems. I have also rented an economy from Alamo for the same week for 151.00 from the airport. I will decide which one I take as I get closer which is March 20th to the 27th.

Never had a problem getting the upgrade (no money exchanged).

For March I ended up going with Alamo for $120 total for a full size for 7 days (I rebooked that trip on Feb 1st with no luck on a lower rate since then).
