Vegas rental vehicle advantage play/s? Maybe...

My last visit , June 12- 24, I paid Fox Car Rental $490 for the rental of a Ford Hybrid , and I paid a total of $25 to fill up the car prior to returning it to Fox. I secured this rate on the Fox website after also checking rates thru Autoslash and Turo. My daily cost averaged out to $41/day, plus the $25 for gas. Higher than what the cost of a rental car used to be in the past, but I was able to come and go as I pleased, any time day or night. I refuse to drive to Vegas for the trip would entail 26 hours drive time (minimum) each way, plus the cost of gas, which would be astronomical. I have found Fox to be reliable and taking the shuttle to the Car Rental facility only adds 10 minutes to my getting to and returning the car via the Car Rental facility. The Fox quote was inline with the Turo quote - but I did not want to hassel with picking up and returning the car to an offsite location, plus the cost via taxi or uber/lyft and the additional time required using these alternative services when renting thru Turo. The Hybrid, which I have rented thru Fox my last 3 Vegas trips, easily gets 32-38 miles per gallon. I do not drive the rental car for long distances, but I have it at my immediate disposal and have the option to drive whenever and where ever I choose. Parking is never a concern since I know where to park at no cost and I use the valet at the places I stay or visit, when necessary. Since I have no use for the rip off strip and their gouging, parking is not an expense I have to deal with. If I were to visit Belaggio or any of the other MGM properties, I have the Pearl slot club card that allows me to park at any MGM properity for free. The card is a perk of having the MLife credit card, which is easily available on the MGM website when signing up for the credit card. Using the MGM credit card every 3 months or so keeps me in good standing for the Pearl slot card. Since I use my credit cards all the time, with my Southwest credit card being my go-to card, I use my MGM card for occasional purchases and this keeps my free parking intact at MGM properties. My last trip I visited/stayed at- South Point, Sun Coast, Arizona Charlies Decatur, Mohegan Sun, Tuscany, 4 Queens, Palace Station, Red Rock, and Rampart - all at no cost for parking except at the Mohegan Sun where I valet parked even though they have a free parking garage. I have found that if one desires to rent a car, it is doable and not overly expensive.

I'll just report that the cargo van rental for in-town Vegas transportation was not a huge hassle during our recent trip, and it was significantly less expensive vs all the pre-trip car rental quotes. One just has to pay attention to the clearance height (this van's height clearance was 7'2") when entering some Vegas parking garages / valets. We'd certainly use this option again if the price differentials warrant it.

It seems a shame that a regular car has become so expensive to rent that one has to consider to have to rent a work vehicle if they desire to pay a more fair rental car rate.
