Which car rentals don't charge addt'l fee for a spouse?

CLV, we used Budget a year ago and they didn't charge the addtl fee for the spouse. But I am calling to verify they still have that policy. I'm also going to call a few other rental co's in the next day or so to verify what their policy is so I'll post all the info I find out.
Thanks driz/Pam Will check back laters.........

I will be checking out Avis too. Thanks for posting those details gamboozler!
When I asked about the Nevada law at Dollar, the clerk new nothing. She said I would have to pay if I wanted to drive also. Just a scam to get more money...

The info I posted earlier about no charge for spouses in Nevada used to be on the Southwest Airlines web site, but not since they changed the web site for RR 2.0.
So I did some more digging around and apparently Nevada did change the law to now allow for charging for a spouse as an additional authorized driver

As of today the info regarding a "legal spouse" being an authorized driver in California, New York, and Nevada is still on the SWA website (see Additional Drivers/Operators). I must assume that is still the law in Nevada. Since I always attempt to rent through SWA to get extra points I will hold SWA to their policy statement if a problem arises. Since this appears to be the law I would not even bring up my spouse driving at the time of rental to avoid being badgered for an additional driver payment.

I doubt you can legally hold Southwest to statements posted on their website. The agreement you sign is w/the car rental company, not Southwest. Better to be safe than sorry later. From what Gamboozler notes, he has checked into this further and Nevada has made changes in the law.
Here is a link to where it is now posted on SWA website (thanks fingerstim, my old bookmark no longer worked).

SWA

If you look directly above where it mentions about spouses being authorized operators, it also states
"*Additional authorized operators and/or authorized operators may be subject to an additional charge."

Here is a link to the Nevada statute that was changed to allow for the charge.

Nevada Statutues

For me, I agree with what fingerstim said about not bringing it up. I'm not a lawyer, but I think the worst thing that could happen in the event of an accident is that they could then add on the charge for the additional driver.
Hertz Gold allows one "significant other" to drive the vehicle.
I finally called directly to the following Las Vegas car rentals to find out if they charge an additional fee for a spouse to drive. Here are the results (keep in mind, these are the only ones I called):

Dollar - yes, charge of $10 a day for spouse to be added as an addtl driver
National - no, spouse is free as addtl driver (as long as they reside at same address w/proof such as driv. lic.)
Alamo - no (& same clarification as National)
Budget - no, (same as National)

Looking at the charge for our rental & the spouse issue clarified it looks like we'll be going w/Budget. Better price and that's without a coupon.
How on earth did you find a price from Budget that's cheaper than Alamo or Dollar? I've never found Budget to be anywhere close to competitive.
