World's Tallest Broken Thermometer

It has been a while since I drove to Vegas from LA, so I don't know when it happened, but The World's Largest Thermometer in Baker CA is broken and apparently has been for some time.

Makes Baker seem even more sad and pathetic than it did before.

Driving past on I-15 last month and seeing the unseamly spectacle of the tower lit with random lights (which didn't even form a number) made me want to avert my eyes, like walking past a bum on the beach in Santa Monica.

Does anyone know what happened and whether any effort is being made to fix it?
No, I don't know what has happened to that thermometer, but I do tend to make a stop in Baker to try and get vouchers for funbooks and whatnot (since something might end up being of use) for LV plus some of the LV Freebie magazines in front of the Country Market which is next to the UNOCAL Gas Station.

It has been broken for years. Brian, Baker is unseemly. How do you keep your car on the road? lol

Guess I hadn't noticed the Temp in a long time.........

Used to drive thru Baker as it had a Drive-thru Starbucks, right near the thermometer.
That Starbucks is long gone too.

Sometimes I need to stop at the Chevron, as I use their C.C., so makes speedy
fueling at the pump. However, last time the pump kept telling me to go Inside.
The reader wouldn't take it, grrrrrrrrrrrrr, so much for speedy gassing up.
Lots of people & long wait inside.

NOW, I try to fuel up before/after Baker and avoid it altogether.

Getting fuel in Baker is like telling the IRS to increase your tax rate. lol

That Starbucks was something else. I think it was the only one in the country that had a work-release employment arrangement with the county jail.
Although I stop in Baker to take a break and get my circulation going in my legs (and to see what vouchers and whatnot for LV I can get my hands on), I don't think that I have ever stopped there to get gas.

That's because the gas prices there are crazy!

I also haven't eaten in any restaurant there (since nothing there [at least nothing substantial enough to eat] is Kosher there).

You telling me the Greek's not kosher? lol
Actually what I was saying was that considering what you were saying about getting gas there one way or another, I was agreeing with you by meaning that maybe it's a blessing that there is nothing major that I am able to eat there since maybe that has saved me some distress!
