Earning A Southwest Companion Pass With Credit Cards

I took my own advice and called Southwest and was told if I had a card and cancelled it, I would have to wait 24 months to get another card to qualify for the bonus points.

This is where the gamesmanship and planning take over.  I will get a card in my name and after I get the bonus earned apply for a business card.  Cancel both after recieving rewards.  Then I get a card in my wife's name and after the bonus is earned get a business card in her name.  Cancel after recieving the bonus.

Now I have to wait 24 months to repeat the process with Southwest (Chase Bank), so I then begin the process with JetBlue.  After that there is also American (which only requires 18 months wait).  Then Delta and United.

Also you can mix in the capital One Venture card to help with other travelk expense reimbursment.

Don't forget the hotel cards.

Rinse and repeat.  You will never have to pay for airline tickets, hotels, rental cars again.

Sorry, can't believe I missed this post. I do the same thing with my Capital One cards (not a lot of Southwest in Boston). For Southwest, a lot of people alternate years for card applications to make it easier to keep the Companion Pass going.
