I do like to play games of chance.For me I need a break.There are lot to do in Las Vegas.I do a day trip.Red Rock a nice day.Also went on boat cruise under the Dam another time.Much more to explore.Always find some inexpensive and expensive shows.I do miss my dear friend who was a local.We found so much to do together.When she took a break from Video poker.
My wife and I started coming to Vegas in the mid 90's because it was cheap to fly to and rent a car to go into Utah to see family there. We had 1 kid and then more. If we stayed overnight, it was at Excalibur. We did stay at Monte Carlo once. Pools and entertainment were nice for the kids. We didn't even gamble then.
We continued to come after that(w/o the kids) and gambled a little. Just enjoyed the cheap food, the lights and really the rush of Vegas during that time. Unique properties, free dice or decks of cards etc.
Starting in the 2000's my employer would send me to conferences in Vegas periodically. My wife always joined. She played slots and I would play live poker(Hold em). We still enjoyed the food and shows.
As time has gone by(40, maybe 50+ trips), we learned to play VP, so that our bankrolls would align better(she tended to lose quickly on the slots, while my bankroll at Hold em, craps or BJ would last far longer) and we could play together. Hit my first royal with her sitting next to me about 1 am at the Boar's Head Bar at MSS when they still had 9/6 JOB and you got a scratch card for 4 of a kinds.
We still go today and still both play VP and some BJ. I love doing the trips with her, and at this point wouldn't do it any other way. We are best friends(after some tough years, but that's how marraige goes) and love doing Vegas and travelling elsewhere together.

What may have saved the situation is that you weaned her away from the slots. I told the story of one couple, and I know several others, where one spouse played a low-house-advantage game and lost slowly if at all, while the other dumped billions down the slot sewer. I sympathized: you book a $45 loss at the BJ table. only to have your wife (or husband) come up to you and tell you that they lost $700.
I spoke of compatibility and common interests, and I think that extends to what type of games you play when you're gambling. When I was married, I pretty much told my wife that if we were both going to gamble, we would both be doing it a la Jean Scott. That meant that she had to not play her favorite game, video keno, and learn BJ and VP (and learn them well). She bridled at that, and one evening she confessed she had lost $1100 at dollar slots, which put kind of a damper on my $150 win at BJ. I, of course, had no choice--I hurled her off the face of Hoover Dam.
