Here is a real-life example of how I got $760 worth of comps for a two-day stay on the strip through myVegas for my upcoming trip.

What do you have to do to get the comp the author of the article described?
(Just to be clear--a comp for something that's hideously overpriced--like a $500 room--is actually only worth its legitimate cost. Like a comped $150 steak isn't worth $150.)
Kevin, There is something going on that weekend that is driving up the room rates. The only options left to utilize that comp over that particular Sat and Sunday was the Luxor and NYNY even the Excalibur was blacked out. That Saturday night stay alone is going for $409 on the MGM website with the standard discount. The bottom line is those are the real rates for that weekend.
All you have to do to get the comps is put time and a little bit of money into their slot games. I stayed at the Mirage and got two nights free back in September on a similar deal. To unlock the two-night comps for all the MGM properties most people report the magic spend number in the app is around $120.
I am in the process of writing another article that explains how can you can fund that $120 by using other rewards so you don't even have to out of pocket the $120.
You mean their online slot games? Played with play money, not real money? I've heard about that but it seemed waaaaay too tedious to me for what you get. I don't stay on the Strip any more anyway--even if I got a free room, I'd still be paying $27 for a grilled cheese sandwich or $11 for a cup of coffee. And I certainly wouldn't be gambling there.
(That makes me wonder--if so many people are willing to play $50 minimum bottom-of-the-septic-tank games, wouldn't it make sense to make the rooms dirt-cheap or even free? Vegas used to do that. And I believe they made money.)
Isn't there always some "special event" going on in Vegas? March Madness. The Super Duper Pooper Scooper Bowl. The Consumer Electronics Show. A Golden Knights game. The annual Blind Proctologists' convention ("Let us come in and poke around."). Two big guys beating each other up (I think they call it "championship boxing"). The National Mule Skinners' Championship. The American Nun-Beating Club's annual meeting. The There's Nothing in Particular Going On But We Wanted To Charge You Five Times As Much Anyway And You'll Bend Over And Take It With a Smile Gala Casino Weekend.

Yes, their online games. Typically, I play them on my phone. It isn’t tedious because I just put the game on auto-spin and set my phone on my desk. I stay on the strip because it is a good value for me. There is lots of cheap food on the strip if you know where to look. There are a lot of cheap eats in the Miracle Mile mall. The shops in front of Bally’s has some cheap eats. The myVegas BOGOs get you half-priced buffets and entrees at various MGM resorts. And finally, you have Ellis Island behind Bally’s.

I don’t gamble much in Vegas anymore. Basically, I go there to party. I’ll take my free slot play of course but I won’t gamble on the strip otherwise. I’ll hit the video poker a little bit Downtown on my two days there but that is about it.
But the fine print says that you still have to pay resort fees, taxes and other crap they add. The room is not free. Look at fine print. I tried this and not work all the add on fees.
I am a Hilton Diamond, Marriott Gold & Hyatt Gold member. On our last 3 trips we have used our points for free stays.
In addition to earning points I get 2 free nights annually from Hilton & 1 free night from each of the other 2 programs.
Granted they aren't casinos, (but we can drive 2 the casinos). but the rooms are nice & we get a comp breakfast. No resort fees & free parking.

Yes, you do and in this case, those fees and taxes were exactly $83.90 on $518 worth of room. You wouldn’t refuse to accept a jackpot you hit because you had to pay taxes on it, would you?
There were some issues with my original room. I was able parlay those issues into an upgraded room, $100 worth of Food & Beverage credits and the waving of my resort fees.
I have played MyVEGAS et al since their inception. I play during the long/dark winter months because it's fun and during my three year absence I have accumulated a treasure trove of LP's. I have a MyVEGAS host who has put together a variety of custom rewards in addition to the 6 regular rewards. For our September Trip, I have a considerable resort credit separate from the comped MGMResorts stay, FP, and RC.
I don't advocate playing for anyone other than myself and my bride.
