What are the airlines that have expiring points of 12 months or less? Those are the 

ones that can sneak up on you. Very similar to slot clubs as some of those are down to 

6 month inactivity windows. Rarely pays to save stuff for a rainy day. Spend em at first

opportunity.

The big one for airlines is Spirit, which has a ridiculous three-month activity/expiration period.

 

I've been burned by the six months inactivity at Caesars. I lost a bunch of points last year.

 

One thing that I should have mentioned in the article is that the best reason not to hoard points isn't because of expiration, but rather, the rate at which they devalue. Companies make so much money selling points that there's no reason to stop doing so. Problem is, they've sold so many points that they couldn't possibly redeem them all. The only way to protect themselves is to devalue the points by inflating the cost of the rewards.
