I liked the "deboarding concept" but I'm not sure it would work in real life. If the aisle seats deboard first...then those people are potentially leaving behind their companions in the other seats. Not a big deal if its a middle aged adult....but probably a big deal for a toddler or elderly person =)
Ultimately you have to choose between getting a row close to the exit...or a row more likely to have a vacant middle seat. Its hard to get both. I generally aim for the latter.

I'm with you. I can handle a few extra minutes getting off the plane if it means more comfort for the duration of my flight.

Onboarding could be smoother if they actually enforced the carryon luggage size limits.
And maybe played the William Tell Overture...folks might sit down faster, particularly on Southwest. LOL
Candy, they've known for decades how to speed up onboarding--let the people who are seated in the BACK of the plane go first. There was a whole episode of Mythbusters devoted to that topic. Unfortunately, the "first class" passengers wouldn't feel nearly as privileged if they were told to board last.
I think they ought to strictly enforce a two-minute time limit, after which those who aren't yet seated would be tossed out the emergency exit. And I like Rossini, but I would think "Ride of the Valkyries" more appropriate.
I was in a Southwest boarding line last year. There were two vultures who were flying south for the winter. One was carrying a dead goat in a plastic bag. The other said, "They'll never let you on board the plane with that." The one with the goat said, "Nonsense, it's carrion."
LOL Kevin!!!
But I stand by both my recommendations. No carryon (not dead road kill) boards first.
And, who wouldn't pick up their pace to The Lone Ranger? Flight attendants could call out "Hi Yo Silver away!" should slackers start slowing up.
I'll give ya Ride of the Valkyries for second place. Pretty dramatic, that one. People would probably sit down just to make it stop!

Also, added a "historic" United Airlines commercial to the post. Does anyone recognise the plane type at the end of the video? It's one of my favourites.
