Welcome to the Travel Game Forums! We're here to offer tips, answer questions and create fodder for discussion in the world of loyalty programs. Whether your question is about miles, points or credit cards (or, for that matter, anything else), we'll do our best to address it.

Feel like just chatting about travel? Go ahead. That's what we love to talk about.

So for now, sit back, relax and feel free to create a topic or two.

I have been reading the blogs and have gotten some good info. I hope this forum takes off. It would be very nice to see some positive action on LVA.

Thank you for your kind words. We really would like to be a travel resource for the Las Vegas Advisor community. So many fantastic opportunities out there. Please be sure to tell us about your interests and what you would like to read more about.

Thanks for letting us know! We look forward to more posts and hope to get the forums going, as well.

Credit Cards - currently I've been using the Citibank Double Cash Card which gives you 2% cash back. Is there anything higher out there?

Michael T or Michael F might have a quick answer for this, but I can tell you that credit cards will be a serious focus of The Travel Game. Talk about advantage play-type opportunities. I've been told about some amazing opportunities in CCs and we're gonna bring them to light here.

Hi Don!

So the answer is "probably," but I need to ask a few questions first to point you in the right direction. If there's anything you don't feel comfortable answering publicly, you can shoot me an email at [email protected].

First, how deep down the rabbit hole do you want to go? And by that, I mean, do you want a simple card that you can use every day and get 2% (or more) on everything without having to worry about it too much, or are you willing to mix up a few based on major categories? I'm not talking about having a dozen different cards, but rather, a main card and a different card for MAJOR categories, such as restaurants, groceries or office supplies? If it's the latter, the task gets a lot easier.

Second, is cash your primary reward goal, or do you want miles, proprietary points (such as American Express Membership Rewards or Citi Thank You points)? You can do a little better with some of the other cards, but you may be restricted to what you can spend your points on. For instance, Citibank offers a better conversion rate for its points if you use them to book travel, rather than if you them to send to your bank account.

I'll start with those two questions, and we can probably limit your options pretty quicky.

Thanks!

We have used the US Bank VISA points for booking airfares and found it pretty good.  I'd have to go back and do some calculating to see what % you get and if the airfare price is discounted or not.

Dave

I have had the AA credit card for years, but the quality of the airline has declined.  I also have a Delta Amex which gives me a free companion ticket.

I also have the Hilton Amex.  Spend enough money & you can be upgraded to diamond, where you are treated like gold.  I also have a Marriott card which has a free room on your anniversary.

I have found the hotel cards to be more flexible.

It's not a bad card, especially with the occasional bonuses. It wasn't always as flexible as I liked.

I'm doing more with Capital One and Discover now. Although they call their points "miles," they're really just cash. Apparently, the name "miles" is a better marketing device than just saying "you'll get money." I'm not sure why, but hey, whatever works for them.
