This will be my first trip report I have posted, this will be a long one so if you don’t like long TR’s I am giving you a chance to jump off now. I will try to write a bit everyday but you know how good intentions go. I have done a ton of research for this trip, reading these boards and hunting for coupons. I am so excited for this trip I just can’t wait to get to Vegas (otherwise known as my happy place). This is Hubby and I third trip this year. It is funny, when I mentioned to mom, Hubby and I were planning another trip to Vegas she got a concerned looked and asked if we had a gambling problem. I said no, “I have a coupon problem”. I guess if you’re not an LVAer you just don’t understand. I have to say Hubby and I are far from high rollers; we are tin at CET and just started to get monthly mailers from M. But I have learned so much from everyone on the boards that we are making smarter choices with every trip.
We planned this trip around our local High School Football team’s schedule. They were scheduled to play a game on Friday night at Dixie College in St. George Utah. Hubby coached a lot of these kids in little league and my youngest played with them until last year. we decided if we were driving 4 ½ hours for a football game we might as well go another hour and a half to Vegas and make a weekend out of it. Well a weekend turned into a week of unused vacation time and we get 6 bonus days in my happy place. We started planning this trip with our Boys, youngest is 17, and oldest is 20, and our son’s GF. We have stayed at Wyndham Grand several times and it is always very comfortable with a group, so the hunt begins. Renting directly from an owner and staying as their guest through eBay, we have always been able to get great deals, and this time was no exception, 3 bedroom suites for the week for $42.00 per night. The kids get their own rooms for 3 nights they are with us and we don’t need to worry about moving during our trip. The convenience of the full kitchen and extra space more than make up for the small walk to the strip every day.
Day 1-Friday – Traveling Day
Unfortunately our oldest is not able to get time off work to make it down with us for the weekend and school starts Monday for the youngest, because the plan was for the kids to ride back together they will not make it, so it is just Hubby and I for the trip. Today is traveling day and football game. Get off work early and on the road by 3:00, we make it to the game by 7:15 and only miss a few minutes of the first quarter. The game didn’t go our way and our team lost by 12. We enjoy watching the games more now that our two boys are no longer playing because I am not worried about my boys at the bottom of the pile after every play, and we don’t have any more moody boys to deal with all weekend after a loss. Back on the road by 10:30 after a quick stop at Wendy’s for dinner. The last hour and a half is like torture; you know you’re so close and should see the Luxor light any minute and every turn in the road I expect to see the city on the horizon. Finally arrive close to midnight, get checked in and unpacked, and that is it. Off to bed.
Saved $559.00 on the room.
