advice on los angeles

You're quite welcome! And so besides that, there are some other tours available and on Hollywood Blvd. there also is (if I'm remembering correctly) the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Odditorium and maybe the Hollywood Wax Museum (if it is still there). There is also (I think on Highland Avenue) the Max Factor Museum (he did makeup for the old time stars).

Maybe try checking out (through a search engine) something like Hollywood Tours or Tours Of Los Angeles. There also is paying a visit to Hollywood Forever Cemetery (which has many celebrity residents).

Is there anything else you want to know?

Hi! I too live in Los Angeles, not far from where you will be staying. Since you will only be in L. A. for one day without your own transportation, you may want to stick to the Westside, which is where LAX is.

Santa Monica and/or Venice Beach are lovely places to visit, especially since the weather will probably still be warm then and the Pacific Ocean should feel bracing-very romantic to watch the sun set from the beach. I believe Sony Studios in Culver City is the closest studio near the airport, but you'll want to book a tour in advance because they don't offer a whole lot of them. Plenty of shopping, dining, and sightseeing in Santa Monica, Venice, and Culver City for all tastes and budgets. And as a shoutout to my fellow Bruins, you could check out the grounds and facilities at UCLA, the finest university in the city (take that, Trojans!). And UCLA is right outside Westwood Village, which has great old movie theaters for a true Hollywood experience; you might arrive the night of a big red-carpet movie premiere.

Yes, miotti, Marlo36 does have some good suggestions as well (and I say "Go [UCLA] Bruins!" as well -- some of my family attended there)!

The Santa Monica Pier is also definitely nice and Pacific Park which is there has some amusement rides including (if I'm remembering correctly) a Solar Powered Ferris Wheel. There also should still be an Arcade there with games to play (if you're so interested).

Oh, and for your knowledge, miotti, Sony Pictures Studios is on the site of the former MGM Studios where great classic films like "The Wizard Of Oz" and "Gone With The Wind" were filmed.

Thanks everybody for all your info it's great to get info from people who know the area and hopefully the weather will be just right.
At the moment in England we are having mini heat wave, so instead of us Brits complaining that it is always raining it is now to hot, I just wish we had air con but because we don't have this weather very often the old electric fan has come out.
If ever any of you guy's come to England and need any info don't hesitate to contact me Thanks again

You're welcome, miotti! I'm happy to help.

I should mention that I have been at a few movie theatres around Westwood (which is actually a section of Los Angeles, not its own city). I was even at one of the Westwood theatres to see the movie "21" which was about the M.I.T. Blackjack Card Counting Team.

Is the Relative Humidity rate in England high? I ask that because it can make things feel even hotter than the temperature indicates. In the Western U.S. (where Los Angeles and LV are located), it for the most part is less humid than on the East Coast (where New York and Florida are).

Somewhere here (in one of the Message Boards), I put a link to a weather phenomenon known as the "Heat Index" (or you can check it out). Once it gets over 80 Degrees F, (which is a bit over 25 Degrees C), then the higher the humidity percentage is, the hotter that it feels.

For example, when I plugged in 100 Degrees F and 8% Humidity, it came back with a "Feels Like" temperature of 93 Degrees and then I plugged in 88 Degrees and 80 Percent Humidity, it came back with a "Feels Like" temperature of 106 Degrees.

Not sure about the humidity I have had a look at the weather over the next few days and it read 30c with 45% to 60% humidity, and that is vey hot for us Brits, they are now giving out health warnings about the heat on the News, which I haven't seen for a number of years we just carn't cope with this heat.
Here is the forecast for Los Angeles for 10/9 and 10/10. For Wednesday, 10/9 it says PM Showers with a High Temperature of 64 (about 18c) and Low Temperature of 53 (about 13c) and Thursday 10/10 Mostly Sunny with a High Temperature of 70 (about 21c) and a Low Temperature of 54 (about 14c).

In Las Vegas for the week of the 13th, I'm seeing (at least through the 10 Day forecast from the https://www.weather.com website) High Temperatures running in the mid to upper 70's (about 23c to 26c) and Low Temperatures running in the High 40's to Low 50's (about 11c to 14c).

Enjoy!

Sorry that I didn't see this before. I just plugged in those numbers and found 30c (87f) with 45% Relative Humidity had a Heat Index (Feels Like Temperature) of 30c (88f) but at 60% Relative Humidity, it would feel like 33c (92f). That's pretty hot (although LV in the summer can be a whole lot hotter than that but at least the Humidity is low which makes it feel like it's a lower temperature).
