A year ago may or so my hubby and a few of his friends started talking about what to do this Fall when they all started turning 50. Hubby of course, suggested Vegas. One other friend said that sounded good, let's work on the rest. Fast forward to May of this year, still talking about a Vegas celebration, I fheres to look @ convention schedules to make sure we'd go at a time that wasn't too crazy busy or pricy. I suggested the last weekend of
Sept. or the 2nd weekend of Nov., yes I knew the Rock and Roll Marathon was the Nov. weekend but I was there last year and it was pretty fun. Sent out emails giving dates, everyone chose Nov. I told them to contact friend X for room reservations at Paris and let me know how many were coming so I could at least get us all together for dinner Saturday night. I told them I'd chosen Mastro's because they had a wider selection of fish as well as steak. I said 7:30 dinner. I checked into a private room because they would only take a reservation for 12 in the main dining room. Originally there were 9 of us going and 4 more maybes and 3 "I wanna go's". Fast forward to Oct. and the count is down to 7. Fast forward to the Wed. before the trip and the count is 5. Funny it was us and the guy (and family) that were in the May 2013 conversation. We'll call them, B, M and L.
Nov. 14, friend, wife and daughter flew out on the first nonstop from Austin. They were lucky enoug to be able to check into a fountain facing room at 8:30 a.m. They were off to explore, hubby and I worked all day and flew out on the last non stop from Austin, arriving @ 9:00 p.m. We texted friend from room, they were at Zarkana and going directly to bed after they got back to Paris, we'd catch them in the morning.
Hubby and I were hungry so we stopped at the coffee shop @ Paris for a bite. Always good. We decided to do things differently this time and hit the $5 top dollar after eating instead of making it our last stop before bed. Bad move. We went by the sports book to pick up our parlay stuff to take back to the room. We each lost $200 before going to Ballys to piddle around on slots and a little 3 card poker. We both needed about 2000 TC's this trip to keep our diamond status. We decided at 2:00 a.m. that we'd both lost enough money for the first few hours of our trip so off to bed. Love the mattresses in the Red Room. My head hit the pillow and I was down for the count.
Morning comes early, we wake up at 7:00 and can't go back to sleep. We get cleaned up and make our football picks. I had 3 3 game $25 parlays (big spender but I've never won a parlay so I don't waste too much money on them) and a $50 bet on LSU. Let's just say now, damn you LSU. We went to the sports book and I went to the window where my fellow Sooner fan works, made my bets and talked to him for a few minutes about the Sonners chances with their backup QB. I couldn't bet the Sooner game because there wasn't a line on it. He gave me 2 drink coupons for the bar at the sports book. Hubby made his bets (and didn't score drink tix ) so he texted his friend to see if they were moving. He said he'd come meet us for breakfast but his girls were still asleep. So, not to waste a good drink ticket, I suggested we wait in the bar for him and have a morning cocktail. I had a mimosa, hubby a Bloody Mary. I looked at my watch, it was 8:30, ofiicially the earliest I've EVER started drinking in Vegas. B comes down and says where to, we say Spice Market Buffet. I had a 15% off coupon and a diamond line cut so breakfast for the was just at $50, we paid with RC's. We asked B where all they went Friday and he said from Paris to MGM, across to Excalibur and back up to Cosmo. They bough some things @ Tix 4 Tonight, the Zarkana tickets and then they got discounted buffets but didn't way where. Spice Market has a pretty good breakfast buffet and they were just putting out their cupcakes, I had one that was called strawberry shortcake. I could have eaten 10, but that wouldn't have been lady like!
We took B to introduce him to high card flush. We all bought in for $100, B got a 5 card flush first hand. Meh had a few more nice hits and his family texted that they were up and about so he cashed out, he was up over $350, not a bad start for the morning for him.we took him to the diamond line at the cage to cash in, no wait. As we walked back to Psris he said, "I'm going to have to hang around you guys more often, I like these line cuts!" He and his family were off to head the opposite direction for the day, we said we'd catch up with them @ 7:00 p.m. to head to dinner. We went back to the room to watch the first half of the Oklahoma game and at half time we went to Bellagio to check out the conservatory and play $1 and $5 top dollar, of which neither was profitable. We went to the sports book to catch the end of the Sooner game. I also watched Arizona make me lose my first parlay. Yippee. Back to Ballys to play some more $1 slots then back to the room to get ready for dinner. We really didn't do much other than lose money on Saturday.
Met B,M and K for walk to Crystals. I had only met M and K once before. K had just turned 21 in Oct. and this was her first trip to Vegas so they wanted to make sure she saw all they could. B and M hadn't been to
Vegas in several years so there was lots of new stuff for them to explore. B had looked online and said he wanted to eat in the "cage" so when I made the reservation I asked to be seated in the treehouse. We had to wait a few minutes while they got the table ready. We had a great waitress, she was very informative and knowledgeable. M had already told me she was a pretty picky eater so I was hoping she'd find something on the menu. M and K both ordered the chicken, the men got the KC strips, which were huge, and I got the filet. Sides were lobster mashed potatoes, green beans with almonds and au gratin potatoes. Everyone was happy to their meals. When originally made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything and I said a 21 and several 50's. They brought out a large plate with happy 21 and 50 on it and there was their warm butter cake and a piece of chocolate cake, and 5 forks. It was all really good. B picked up the tab. Totally unexpected and very appreciated.
Back to Paris to change back into comfies, M wanted to take K downtown. Hubby and I hate downtown but we said we'd go. Have to wait for a mini van cab to take all 5 of us. We get there just as FSE ended. We wandered around for a few minutes, I can't say I've seen that many exposed breasts in that short a period before. One girl was dressed as some sort of cop, had stretchy pants on and the only thing covering her were the strategically place words STOP POLICE. Then there was the pirate wench whose breast was the size of my head. We went to Golden Nugget to check out the shark tank and play a little, waiting for the 10:00 FSE, the neon turned off in front of the casinos and not much happened, 5 minutes the lights came back on. Hmmm, did we miss something? Hubby and I had enough of downtown so we left our friends and hopped in a cab back to Ballys. Hubby and I both put 1000 TC's on our cards Sat. so we got the 1000 bump so we were diamond again before bed. I played LIR for awhile, hubby 3 card, neither doing so well. I'm not feeling the W-2G's coming again this trip (hubby got one in July and Feb.). We decide to head to the room at 1:30 a.m., Sunday was another day.
But wait....I won a parlay.....my very first. Thank you Michigan State, Florida State and Texas (yes, this Sooner fan bet on UT). I won $150, so it covered my total sports bet and made me $25, woo hoo!
More tomorrow.
