Anniversary, nice people and taxi incident

Background - Bobby (BW), Martie (MJ) went to Vegas to celebrate 20th Anniversary. We were married in Vegas at the Chapel by the Courthouse, (no longer open), and stayed a Fitzgerald's, now the "D". While in Vegas wme met Russell (RG), our families have been friends for over 50 years. Russell is a trucker who was delivering machines for the G2E Global Gaming Expo.

Sept. 27, 2015 (Sunday) taxied to airport with our favorite driver Marilyn. Flew Southwest Airlines and checked in and security was a breeze since we had early bird boarding, A24 and A25. We sat in row 8 on the right side of the plane. Flight was scheduled to depart at 6:30 am. and was about 10 minutes late leaving but arrived 15 minutes early in Vegas. Even though the flight was expensive we were able to choose our flight times. The flight was only two third's full and therefore we had the row to ourselves.

We walked to the baggage claim area where we met our limo driver from Presidential, Marvin, who was originally from Houston, Texas. We stopped at CVS Pharmacy for supplies then on to Flamingo.

We had Bloody Mary's at Bugsy's with our favorite bartenders, they called and said that our room was ready so we went to our room. Room number was 12151 and it was a studio suite. Very nice with lots of room. We went back down and gambled some at the Flamingo, then met up with RG and walked to Harrah's where we gambled until we went to eat at Toby Keith's. The past two times we have eaten there the chicken fried steak was superb, this time it was at best average. It was very much over done. We then walked back to the Flamingo and gambled the rest of the night there and at Cromwells. MJ had a photo with her children's hero Pee Wee Herman and his bicycle. MJ had a nice hit on the Buffalo Machine for $400.00. Between the three of us we had no four of a kind and no four to a royal. While BW and RG were gambling they met a super nice lady, Jerri, from Illinois, who with her husband owned a bar there. The bar had five machines that provided them with a nice annual income. BW and MJ down for the night gambling.

September 28, 2015.

BW and MJ had coffee and breakfast bars in the room. Out of the room at 9:30 a.m. Bloody Mary's at Bugsy's and gambled at Flamingo, doubled our money at the Buffalo Machine . We took a taxi to the Orleans. While there MJ hit four Kings on the $.50 machine, Bonus Poker. BW and MJ hit a Buffalo Machine for $600.00, MJ also hit a Money Storm machine for $100.00. We ate at Big Al's BW had Louisiana Gumbo and MJ had Parm. crusted fish. Food was good as usual. We then took a taxi to Gold Coast where we had no big wins but did enjoy playing the new Big Bang machine where we received two minor spins. Both casino's were pretty busy. We ate a late meal and Margaritaville of grilled shrimp salad. Margaritaville was both loud and busy. We were back in the room by 10:00 p.m. Both of us were down for the trip.

September 29, 2015 (Anniversary)

Coffee and bars in the room, out of the room by 10:45 a.m. Bloody Mary's at Busgy's We walked to Stage Door where MJ hit four eights on a $.25 bonus poker machine and also hit a straight flush on a $.50 bonus poker machine. BW visited with two nice gentlemen from Charlotte NC who were airline employees. We then went back to the Flamingo where we had lunch a Johnny Rockets where we were again was waited on by our friend Debbie. Debbie is very nice and always seems to know who we are. While eating there we met Spanky Stephens, a long time head athletic trainer at the University of Texas under Coach Darrell Royal. We enjoyed exchanging Coach Royal stories with him.

We then took a taxi Downtown where RG joined us. We gambled at the Nugget, Binion's, Four Queens and the D. We hit the Big Bang at Binion's for $100.00, at the Queen we hit a $1 Haywire machine for $300.00. The D was loud but we enjoyed gambling there. We met a nice bartender named Jay who assisted us in getting another player's card there. MJ was playing bonus poker and hit four nines on the $1, four sixes on a $1 machine, four threes on a $.50 machine and four eights on a $.25 machine. The gambling appeared to be so much better Downtown and the crowd was much improved from earlier trips we have taken there. At the end of the night we took a taxi back to the Flamingo where we gambled and went to the room at 10:30 p.m. BW and MJ, still down for the trip.

September 30, 2015

Coffee and bars in room. We were out of the room by 10:30 a.m. Bloody Mary's at Bugsy's. Walked to O'Shea's and gambled some, met bartenders Jax and Lindsey. Great service. We walked to the Linq. We had lunch at Off the Strip, eggs and bacon was okay, service was good. We walked over to Harrah's where MJ hit two four of a kinds on a $.50 machine. We briefly saw Big Elvis and enjoyed it. We walked back to the Flamingo where BW hit two four of a kinds, 5's and 7's playing quarter bonus poker, MJ hit 4 of a kind Queens $.50 bonus poker, four of a kind 10's on $.1 bonus poker, four of a kind 5's on $1 bonus poker, four of a kind 9's twice $.50 bonus poker four of a kind 3's on $.50. We hit a penny slot for $300.00. Hot dogs and to the room at 9:00 p.m. Both of us are still down for the trip.

October 1, 2015

Coffee and bars in the room. Out of the room at 9:45 a.m. Bloody Mary's at Bugsy's (tradition). We took a taxi to Orleans to meet up with RG. We all had lunch at Big Al's we had the fish again. BW talked to Hank and Gene the bartenders. They seemed like nice people, Hank's parents came to Vegas from Europe many years ago as entertainers and performed in Vegas for many years. We gambled and both BW and MJ hit one four of a kind. We then took a taxi downtown with RG. MJ hit one four of a kind and hit $200.00 on the double diamond machine in the Mega Buck section. We took a taxi back to Orleans MJ hit another four of a kind BW hit 4 A's on the dollar machine playing double bonus poker for a hit of $800.00.

We took a taxi back to the Flamingo and when we got in to the taxi all the windows were rolled down, to be nice the cab driver started rolling up the windows. BW had three fingers of his left hand in the window as it was being rolled up. After much yelling and foul language by BW the driver rolled it back down neither the driver nor MJ knew what the heck was going on. MJ thought he was being robbed and the driver though he had just picked up a crazy man. The driver immediately started saying he was sorry when he found out what it was all about. At the end of the ride BW paid and gave a generous tip and the driver said he was going to give him the ride free. BW declined stating it was not his fault. It is pretty funny now, but not as it was happening. Got hot dogs again and went to the room.

October 2, 2015

Sad day as it was our final day in Vegas. As usual coffee and bars, Bloody Mary's. We check out and checked our bags. MJ and BW hit four of a kind on a $1 bonus poker machine. RG put $60.00 in a Buffalo machine and playing only $1.10 per spin. The machine went crazy and allowed him between 50 or 60 free spins and he cashed out a $500.00 profit. BW made a 3 team parlay bet for $100.00. Oklahoma and A&M came through but Texas Tech plus 17 was not enough. We had lunch at the Yard House again Tiffany was our wait person. Food was good. After gambling at the Linq where BW and MJ hit a Firey 7 machine for $400.00. We then went and got our bags and traveled to the airport We had early boarding and got seats A27 and 28 row 5. Plane was only half full, left 10 min late and arrived 15 min early. Arrived home at 1:00 a.m. Overall a great trip can't wait for our next trip. Not big winners but very fun.

Sounds like you had a great trip. Hope the fingers are o.k., I bet that did startle the driver! So I'm guessing Bugsys makes a pretty good Bloody Mary, I'll have to give them a try. A friend of mine had an excellent one at the Linq at the bar outside O'Sheas last May.
Love the cab story - happy anniversary from an old South Austin guy!
Sounds like a fun time Bobbie and Martie! You guys pack a lot of gambling in each day! Nice hit on the Buffalo machine on your last day!! I have reservations at the Flamingo in January. The rooms look very nicely refurbished, even sprang for the high roller view! I stayed there one other time about 10 years ago; excited to try it again! Thanks for bringing us along on your trip! And congratulations on 20 years of marriage! Gail

Thanks, Bobby for the report! I'm happy that you guys both had some nice hits!

Downtown LV does tend to have better returning (higher return rate) machines than on the Strip!

Sorry to read about the fingers crunching taxi incident and hope that they're all well now!

You're very welcome! I hate saying that about the Strip, but lower returns (pay schedules) will just (if nothing else) enable people to play unfortunately for less and less time and therefore have their money drain at a quicker rate.

If you're playing to either win more or lose less, then at least for the lower denomination machines, the Strip at least vastly is not a good place to play at (except maybe for a couple of things at Circus Circus -- check out the VPFree website at https://www.vpfree2.com for more information on basically which casino offers what games and what the casino's slot club [if any] has to offer).

It seems to be true that if you're not hitting much of anything, then it doesn't matter what things are paying. But if things are paying more, when you do end up hitting something, then you'll get more pay which can cause you to win more or lose less. This at the very least would allow a person to play for a longer time even if they don't care whether they win or lose but just want to have more play time.

As for staying somewhere for your next trip, what are you looking for? As for the hotels that you listed, the only place that I have stayed any time recently is 4 Queens. I find their regular rooms to certainly be functional and their suites are a bit nicer (I ended up being put into one once) and they have some decent games as well!

But are these places from comp offers or would you have to pay for a room at any of these choices that you have posted?

RecVPPlayer Fully comped at Flamingo must pay resort fee, 3 nights at Orleans comped must pay resort fee, the others must pay for this trip. Bobby

Well at least at Four Queens, there is no Resort Fee. I always prefer to stay where I'll be playing. As for the best VP conditions, I think this would be Four Queens.
