If I'm remembering correctly, to get from Gold Coast to Downtown, you might have been able to take Valley View to at least Sahara if not Charleston and then gotten over from there to Downtown.
With Main Street Blocked off, you might have been able to get over to Maryland Parkway and gone North with that (I'm pretty sure [but not absolutely] that at that point, Maryland goes both North and South) to near Fremont Street or at least at that point if it was open, to take LV Blvd to Ogden and then go West to Main Street.

Originally posted by: ogorman We also were in LV on marathon Sunday, what a bleeping mess! It took us 2 1/2 hrs to drive from the Gold Coast to MSS. At one point we were at Main St and Carson (opposite the GN) and Main was blocked off with not a marathoner in sight. Had to back track and get on Xpreesway to finally reach MSS. Met a lot of people who were really PO'ed with the time it took them to get from airport to hotels.
Next trip we will check the events calender more closely.

We started out from Gold Coast following our usual route, north on Dean Martin/Industrial and ran in to stop and go traffic between Stardust and Circus Circus, all roads going east to Las Vegas Blvd were blocked off. (No way to get to Maryland Pkwy even once we were downtown,i.e. you could not go east of LV Blvd or north of Fremont). When on Industrial, just past Sahara, we stopped to ask a cop WTF was going on. He explained the situation and suggested going east once we hit Charleston to M. L. King. Tried that but MLK was blocked off north of Bonneville (before Bonanza), so we could not go East on Bonanza and South on Main St. to MSS. Similarly, Grand Central Pkwy was blocked off north of Bonneville, so we could not take it down to Ogden and Main St. Once downtown, at Main and Carson, we backtracked, south on Main to Bonneville, west on Bonneville to Grand Central Pkw, south on Grand Central to I15, north on I15 to I151, east on I151 to Casino Center exit. Then I was north of Fremont and west of LV Blvd and could easily get to MSS. More detail than needed but it just illustrates how confused the traffic situation was that night. We even ran in to residents who could not get to their destination.
