April in Las Vegas
I stayed at New York New York from April 2-5. My room was spacious and I was permitted to check in early. The check in was fast and efficient. After checking in - the couple I was traveling with (they had never been to Las Vegas) hit the strip. We started at Caesar’s Palace and had lunch at P.J. Clarke’s (Possibly the best hamburger I ever ate). From there we went to the Venetian and then to the Mirage – where we went through Siegfried & Roy ’s Secret Garden.
We then returned to the hotel to an early dinner at a restaurant called America – this restaurant features a large varied menu and the highlight of this establishment is a huge 3 dimensional map of America (you have to see it to appreciate it.) The food is fine – it isn’t a 4 star restaurant but the service was excellent – many different choices of different kinds of cuisine.
After dinner we went to the concierge area to check on a trip to Hoover Dam on Monday – this area of the hotel is very well organized with a bell stand for people checking in and out – a car rental area and a desk for reservations for trips, shows etc. – You can buy tickets to these events right there. Next we went to the Paris Hotel to go up in the Eiffel Tower, which gives you an excellent view of the center strip.
We spent the remainder of the evening in the casino – they have a very good mix of slots and table games – service in the casino was excellent – no problem getting a drink and all of the staff were extremely cordial.
The next day we spent the morning downtown exploring old Las Vegas – we had breakfast at the Golden Nugget’s Buffet, which I found to be excellent – It had everything you could possibly want for breakfast. We also made a souvenir stop at “The Fabulous Las Vegas Jewelry and Gifts” on Fremont Street. Then it was back to New York – New York and more gambling and a nap.
That evening we went to the Bellagio and had dinner at the Café Bellagio, which has a varied menu and good food. It is also right off of the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens which is presently featuring a butterfly house and a variety of flower gardens in full bloom – beautiful exhibit.
Next we went to "O" Cirque du Soleil. You really have to see this show – it is outstanding – extremely well produced and performed. I highly recommend “O”.
The next day my friends went on their trip to Hoover Dam – if you have never seen Hoover Dam it is a must. I spent the day at the hotel in the casino and exploring the hotel – a great place to take a walk is the village street, which features a variety of eateries and shops. There is also a mezzanine with more stores. That evening we went to Gallagher's Steakhouse. The food there is excellent – I recommend the prime rib – garlic mashed potatoes – and Crème Brulee for dessert – great meal.
All and all I would highly recommend New York - New York – it is a complete property with everything you need – it is close to the airport and you can print your boarding passes for free.
